Unanswered: New Engine...What do I need?

Hey all,

Thank you in advance to everyone that helps me out with this one!

Here is the thing, I am going to buy a 2.2 or 2.4 liter engine from OpelGTSource or...somewhere else if anyone has one cheaper but in good condition. The thing is the guy on the phone was explaining to me that many different things had to be chaged on the car if I drop in a bigger engine because of the power.

I was wondering what all I am going to have to chage, I know I am going to need a bigger radiator but that is all I know. Also how big of a radiator am I going to need?

I am looking for only ABSOLUTLY NEEDED changes, not things that will make it faster or anything. If it is needed I need to know what it is so i can buy it and get ready for my engine swap.

Thanks,
Spencer

P.S If I did not explain enough please tell me and I will try to give further explanation.

2.2 or 2.4

The biggest change from what you have now is the induction system. Both of these engines are fuel injected versus carburated, and you have to have all the related electronics and fuel supply pieces to go with that engine. If I had to choose between the two I would go with the 2.4 as they produced it longer than the 2.2 therefore more parts are available. About changes other than those mentioned unless you plan on driving the car hard, a larger clutch and flywheel should be all you need. Make sure when you buy the engine to get all the related driveline pieces and induction pieces to go with it because nothing off your 1.9 will fit.

I am going to go out on a limb here, as all what I know I have gotten from reading billions of posts. I think that you will need to put in an electric fuel pump and run new fuel lines from the tank up. The fuel pump will be different than a carbed one, as you will need high pressure, plus a return line back to the tank.

Unless that is, you decide to run carbs on it. In a GT, this might be much easier solution as I don't think the FI fits very well in a GT without a lot of work.

No carb intake made for 'high port' heads of 2.2/2.4, I'm afraid.

2.4 FI won't fit in GT, manifold's too tall . . . 2.2 FI fits very nicely in GT with only minor mods.

But, he could use a 1.9 head that has been ported with Big Valves and then use any carb intake from stock to duel DCOE sidedrafts, right?

That on a 2.4 lower half would be what I would be doing, if money were no object!
