Unanswered: new to opels..

Hi all I've got my eye on an Opel that I plan on buying relatively soon, but before I get myself into a restoration project I want to know a few things. Let me give you some background so you can either answer or point me in the right direction.

First of all, I don't care if it's fast or not, in fact I'd rather have it be a slow car if that is cheaper to restore it to. I have a Nissan 350Z that is highly modified and that's my go fast car

So given that, if I were to buy an Opel I'd be very interested in either fully rebuilding the engine or getting a brand spanking new one to put in there. So here's my situation -

I'm using this car to learn how to work on engines and such, I have no experience at all rebuilding. Is this a good car to learn on?

Are there new engines available that are a relatively direct fit? I don't care if its meant to be in an Opel or not, just something that will get the car moving successfully and VERY reliably. The smaller and cheaper the better.

If I go with the rebuild route, can someone give me a rough estimate of what I should expect to spend? I realize this will be different for every car, but the engine in the car I am getting apparently runs fine, I would just prefer it to be in perfect condition or get a totally new engine.

Thanks a bunch!

K.i.s.s.

Welcome to the Opel Community.
If the motor in the car runs good - DON'T "fix" it!
Get a second motor to work on so the car can be driven while you are working on the new motor.
Using a stock Opel 1.9L motor or similar means easier fitting - a bolt in proposition.
Read this thread through and through - print it out and keep refering to it!

Now search this site for more motor info and you will see how much fun it all is.
