Unanswered: manual gear shift thread size

Does anyone out there know off hand what size threads are on the gear shift of a manual 4 speed transmission ?The threads that are under the gear shift knob. I want to have a guy make a custom gear shift knob but he needs to know what size adaptor he should put into the knob. His knobs have a metal screw down type adaptor in them so that it fits tight . If anyone knows it will sure save me some time ...otherwise I'll be out there trying to screw down various nuts onto it! THANKS!!

They arent screw threads. Just ridges to help hold the knob on.

The Opel shifter does not have a threaded shaft.
Opel uses a 'press-fit' design.

PO has altered mine then cuz it is certainly threaded. I dug out an extra shift set up I have and see that it does look different. Never realized this before. The extra that i have is the press type. THANKS ANYWAY!

I'd like a billet aluminum one, sorta like this but I don't need a logo on it.
Since I hear it's tough to get the old one off (original will likely be ruined, remove whole stick and boil it I remember reading) and fitting a new one is hard (set screws don't really grab well) I haven't tried.
My knob spins freely which is a bit annoying so maybe I'll smash it off after all.

The ribs/ridges look alot like threads but they don't have any pitch to them. Some of levers have a definite cross hatch appearance but not all of them.
