Unanswered: Shifter vibrates

What are the likely causes for a shifter vibrating at mid to high speeds? Once I'm up to 55 or more, my steering wheel has some vibration in it, so I'm sure my front wheels are a bit out of balance. But would unbalanced wheels cause the shifter to vibrate this much too? It doesn't vibrate enough to pull it out of gear, but is enough that you don't want to hold onto it for very long, as it will numb your arm. Otherwise, it shifts from gear to gear quite well.

check the spring washers in your linkage. They may have flatten out or may be missing

It could. Once you get a vibration, wobble, or hop at the front, it can easily transfer to other parts of the car. You might want to check your motor mounts and transmission mount too. They may be bad.

Shifter vibration can be caused from a number of reasons, but often it is just wear in the linkage. I've had to weld up worn linkage parts and re-shim then as well.

Although I have also seen bad engine mounts do the same, but... normally this vibrates the entire car to some extent when that happens.

An unbalanced clutch and/or flywheel will do this too, but it's pretty much apparent before/after a clutch swap!

I would think that bad "U" joints and/or driveshaft donut would also cause the type of vibration you are describing.

There's a spring going round the base of the shifter, check if it's there...
