Unanswered: Connections original radio
Hello.
I just bought a original radio for my GT. There is a connector on the left side and one on the back. Does it matter which one i connect? Are there normally two speakers connected (i think so, because the left small ring behind the volume knob is also attached to a potmeter). Thx, Rini. |

GT's originally had only one speaker mounted on the back deck. One set of connections is for the speaker, the other for power.

I'm not shure about that.
Both connections are marked with "12V, SPK an GND. |

i think the ones on the side were added so it was easyer to wire in on the production line but the amp will only run 1 speaker properly

And now i realise that the ring below the volume knob could be for the soundquality (treble/bass) instead balance between two speakers. I hope the radio works and catch some radiostations...would be nice. The sound of AM stations just belong to that car....

And how do the presets work? Are the stuck at one frequency? Or is there a way to edit them? |

I don't know the right way to set them, but if you take the radio apart and look at the tuning knob it is a small clutch. When you press a preset the clutch disengages and tunes to the preset station. I bet that you can push a preset and then turn the tunning part of the clutch to the right station and it will save it. Just a guess though.

tune the radio to what every station you can get then pull out a button and push it back all the way in , this sets the station , repeat for the other 3 and job done
then start looking for a modern head unit with a remote pad as the sounds on AM will drive you mad within a week

This is really cool...
Amazing how inventive they are in the early days using mechanical memory instead of electronic... Last edited by tekenaar; 06-18-2006 at 10:08 PM.. Reason: mechanical - adjective (bijvoeglijk naamwoord) |

Radio Mounting
My radio had a "U'" shaped bit of sheet metal screwed to the firewall into which the tail end of the radio fitted when the dashboard was put back into place. This looked like a factory part and stopped the back end of the radio flapping up and down.

yes and maybe at the back you have a thread thing [draad eind] sticking out so you can fasten the back to something as well [maar tis meestal niet nodig de twee moeren op de knophouders zijn meestal voldoende]

No..there isn't a treadthing stickin out of the back..
If the nuts are not enough to hold it in place i will weld the radio to the firewall..
