Unanswered: to heat or not to heat

here's the deal guys: i was working on my car in the garage and the heater level switches on my 67 kadett disconnected (actually broke off) from the wire lines. i fixed them at least for now but i can't feel any heat. yes i made sure that the switches were to left to allow maximum flow, but i do not feel or hear any air flow. what might be wrong? please help!

*special note: i did not take it for a test drive, just turned it on inside the garage, does the car have to be moving for the heater to work correctly?

how long did you run the car ? these old cars have a lot more water to heat up than a new one so it takes some time to heat it all
did you have the fan on too ?

ran it for thirty minutes. checked the wires that attach to the blower switch and they seem to be okay. there is a cream colored wire and there is a black one.. switched them around but still nothing.. what could be wrong?

there may be an air lock in the heater matrix stopping the water getting there , i dont know the kadett well so cant remember if it has the same switch in the water hose but ob a gt there is a valve just before the heater hose enters the fire wall , if the kadett has this it might be in the water off position

as to the wires you dont want advice on them from me i could rewire your radio as a heater but it would be a one off job as it burnt

Did you flip the deflector handle under the dash? There's a handle to way up under the dash that changes it from running in fresh air from the outside, to using just the air inside the car. It should have a little black ball end on it and it'll click or ratchet sound as you pull it.
Just a thought.

If you're referring to me, this handle is in the passenger compartment, under the dash, driver's side, almost in the center up under the dash, it's just a little short handle.

I was assuming that he already checked that, but, this is something that if you didn't know about it, you'd never find out.

. . . water shut-off valve is essentially the same piece for both Kadett and GT 1.9 . . . 90° 1/2" hose barbs with internal valve operated by a cable and lever (~70° arc). 1.1 engine screws into rear of head and is different.

The heat control valve on my '69 1.1l is the same as on 1.9l Kadetts.
I would check the lever under the dash, it will cut off all air flow from the heater/blower.

hm..... i connected a couple of wires that were disconnected. one was cream colered and the other one is black. here's the deal: they are not in the same group of wires. one is wrapped in a grey tube along with other wires and the other is wrapped elsewhere. hope that i did not confuse you guys more than i am right now. can any of you have the courtesy to send me a pic of what the set up should look like?

Mario,

If I'm understanding your problem correctly you're concerned with getting the blower to work. Do you have a simple circuit tester light that you can use to determine if electricity is getting to the switch? This was the first electical tester I bought and it helped me figure out ALOT of my electrical problems on my first Opel.

As you have not mentioned it, I have attached a wiring diagram. This is for a '68, but, I think it's better than nothing at all If you PM me your e-mail address, I'll send you the bigger file for easier viewing.
