Unanswered: Blower not working

I have an '87 Opel Senator B. Yesterday as I was leaving work I needed to kick on the defroster but got nothing. I checked the fuses and all of them seemed good though there wasn't one in slot 12 which from the diagram seems like it is for the blower motor. I shorted it across the slot and still got nothing which is what I expected since it always worked without a fuse in that slot. I thought I would test the wires running to the blower motor but I can't find it. Being used to my American trucks I expect it to be located near the passenger side front fender but it is not there. Can someone please give me the location of the blower motor and a likely cause of why it would work fine on the way to work but no longer work after work? Thank you.

1. Take away the windshield wipers.
2. Remove the nuts from the wiper axles.
3. Remove the rubber gasket and the plastic cover, and there it is.

Well Known Fault

Senator B's tend to do this - the slider control in the dash works along a set of step resistors which fry themselves. The bad news is that they are waaaay in the back of the dash and a bear to get at ..... sometimes waggling the lever up and down stirs it back into life.
My '91 Senny B only runs full on - the lower speeds are FUBAR.

Can I rig it?

It's just a 12v motor, right? Can I just run my own wiring and mount a toggle switch somewhere out of sight? I plan on selling the car when I move back to the US next month.
