    heater hose connection

    Howdy folks,
A couple quick questions if I may:

Right along side the oil pressure sender is a spout for the heater hose. I would like to plug this up. I'll be danged if I can find a proper threaded plug for this hole. More than likely it's a strange metric pipe thread size. Perfect. Where the heck does one find something that will fill this hole?

While we're down by the oil pressure sender. I'm not sure if it's working.
Upon ignition the oil pressure gauge slams to it's stop on the right side never to move again till the engine is turned off. The oil light does it's job, going out when the oil pressure is up. Is the light also run off the pressure sensor?
If that's the case maybe my gauge is ka-put.

And another thing...is the windshield wiper parking capability incorporated in the motor itself? My wipers no longer park. Although I've gotten the timing down pretty good to park them proper, it would be nice to have that working right.

    That's it for now,
    thanks,
    Don.

If it's in the block, it's not a spout for anything. It originally had a plug in it. The thread size is metric 14 x 1.5. If you can't find a plug that size (goodluck) you can get an adapter to 1/8" npt then put a plug in it or a drain cock. egauges.com has the adapter, part #R7963. hth

Try swapping the leads on your oil pressure sender. The parking for the wiper blades is in the motor housing, there is a plate inside with 4 wiping tracks that rotate with the motor and stops the electrical current to the motor when the wiper switch is off or the foot pedal is not depressed. HTH.

    Thank you Namba,
The previous owner had installed a variable type switch rather than the regular 2 speed one and I think something got fubared in the process. I'll bust 'er open and see what there is to see.
    Thanks again.

Oh yeah, on the oil pressure sending unit, it's a no brainer connection - one is a spade type, one is a stud/nut type. No confusion there. I did have the oil gauge out though. Perhaps I crossed the wires at that point? Thank you for your idea, I'll check tonight.

    Another "Opinion"?

"If it's in the block, it's not a spout for anything. It originally had a plug in it."

No - It could be a 1975 or later Opel block, which did have
a water connection located there. If so, you can cap it (with a thick rubber cap and a hose clamp).

(My question: Why are "instructions" here, that don't reflect a sufficient base of knowledge of variations on Opels, not labelled upfront as "opinions"?)

. . . is to remove that '75 FI heater hose connection, send it to me , buy a 3/8" NPT (closest to M14x1.5) drain fitting at a hardware store, put either pipe dope or teflon tape on the threads and install that in it's place.

. . . you kill two birds with one stone - plug the metric-threaded hole AND can easily drain block completely without much effort whenever needed!

I am not certain but I think you can get the correct plug from McMaster-Carr if you don't want to bugger the threads.

Got a 3/8" plug. Seems to fit the bill, and the hole, ok.
Doesn't seem to have messed up the threads in the block.
    Thanks all,
    Don.
