Found something rare and also something unusual (at least for me) at the junk yard yesterday. (I love the junk yards with the old cars..esp. those with Opels!

).
First, the rare- My 1967 Kadett Rallye's dash pad was pretty well cracked up and actually broke into 2 pieces when I removed it from the car. Wasn't sure how I was going to remedy that situation but figured I would worry about it down the road. An upholstery shop had suggested making one out of fiberglass and then they could cover it

. Didn't think the odds of finding a decent one were too good,(the 66-67 pad was different from the later Kadetts- it was just a small pad across the top and 2 small pieces that went across the bottom to protect the knees) but I came across one in the junk yard yesterday in Wisc. (car had been there 30 years) and having gone thru the learning process on how to remove the pad on my car in the comfort of my own garage (first time was a bear!) I was able to remove this pad in no time at all. The pad is in great shape (just 1 crack in the center, which should repair nicely, otherwise it's like new!)
While I was removing that I saw something I had never seen before (but it's true I haven't owned that many Kadetts so maybe it's the way all Kadetts came since they probably had no rear speaker set up from the factory) but this Kadett had a factory front speaker and the speaker attached to a plate which attached up under the dash and was held in by that screw that is on top of the dash where it meets the center of the windshield. Speaker is shot of course, but the plates in great shape. Thinking now of just keeping the radio AM stock and using only the original front speaker location rather than the usual rear speaker set ups.
