Another ARA Setup

Was putting in the new water pump this weekend and really got a chance to see how the A/C pump was installed. It seems different from what I have read here. The York style pump was bolted from the side onto a plate that was parallel with the block. The plate was held away from the block by three towers that the bolts went through. There was no special radiator manifold that I have read about here. The upper pulley bolted to the cam cover and also acts as the belt tensioner buy pivoting on a small arm. Thought I would post some pictures.

The ARA setup was different on the Manta/Ascona/1900 series as it was mounted lower on the side of the engine block (compared to the GT).

On my GT ARA system the pump mounts on a platform that the pump sits on and has bolts that attach thru the platform and into the bottom of the pump housing on passenger side of engine with that type mounting bracket you need to have the adapter to use on radiator hose due to it's tight clearance it looks kind of like a squashed piece of pipe more oval than round. If that motor is in your GT it appears as though it was a transplant from possible a manta.

how is the cam end float done with the pulley where the cap normally sits ?

does it sit over the pressed steel plate ? using its mounting holes to bolt on

Yes, the pulley is mounted on a plate that uses the same holes the steel plate uses.

This is on a Ascona.
