is there a replacement subitute for a 73gt heater core ?

I don't think so, you have to either re-core and old one or find a decent one and flush it out real well.

also, add to what Jeff has said, between 69-73 there were no differences in the heater cores, they were the same. So, if you find a good one from a 69 GT, it'll work.

When I had the dash out of my GT, I went thru the heater box (new cables and seals, remove yard waste..) and had the heater core serviced. It was about $35 to have it cleaned, flushed, pressure checked, etc. I don't recall offhand if it needed any repair, but I seem to think it did. Might have been recored. Any decent radiator shop can do all that. If it's out, spend the time/money, because once it's back in you will not like taking it back out for repair.
