ID number

Just curious .. I recently bought a '73 GT that has a OYO ID number on the door frame and a 77 number on the top of the engine firewall .. does this happen often and are there any things to watch out for in ordering parts?
Thanks,
David

77 is the model number your next number is 3 the year. The earlier GT's model numbers were 93 (1.1 eng) and 94 (1.9 eng.). Most things are interchangeable and possibly have been if the car has been "around" for awhile. I've seen early instrument panels and driver side doors in later model GT's and vice versa. The panels attach differently and the indicator light between the speedo and tach are shaped differently and can't be serviced from the front in the earliest models. The window crank on the early models was located low like the passenger side. Most of the later model stuff is a "little" better IMHO except for the engine which was of lower compression resulting in less HP.

Normal ... for 1973

In 1973 Opel was changing the codes on its car bodies to a new system so that in the 1973 model year many of the cars had both the new OY0 ( Oh-Why-Zero) and the old 77- Vin numbers.

Discussed in this Thread:

Fun when getting Title or moving Inter-State!
