awesome GT

A GT that kicks ass!
The only problem; it's fake. But a good inspiration!

I like the wheel flares. The single wiper is interesting. But I'm not sure I want to give up my headroom like that.

I'm making (metal) flares just like that for my Dad's GT. Front and rear. Gotta clear the 17 x 9 wheels and all that...

Hey Bob, I would like to do those flares too. I've never done anything that bold before and would be interested in a step by step posting of your progress. Thanks, Jerry

Hmm, step-by-step is possible, photos are not at this time. My digital camera is junk and no longer works.

I just made a pair of flares from steel for a friend's road-race car two weeks ago. Basically, I made a rough-template from cardboard and cut out the flares from 18 ga steel, beat the heck out of it to shape it with a forming hammer on a shot-bag, then finished up the curvature on a friend's English wheel. After that, I made a small tool from scrap metal to form the 'lip' or hem of the flares, and hammered the lip over the small hand-held tool. A bit of touch-up with a slapper and dollys and I ended up with a pair of flares needing absolutely no filler material, and they were perfectly smooth after sanding.
Total material investment: About $10 for two flares.
Time: 1/2 hour to hammer and 'wheel' the flares, 20 minutes to make the tool for the hem, and 1.5 hours to roll the hems and smooth them.

Of course they would still have to be welded to the car and metal-finished, but all in all it's still under a day's work for me to fabricate and attach a pair of those fender flares for that particular car (replica BTCC Nissan Primera). For the Opel GT I'd say about 1.5-to-2 days per flare, given the greater curvature of the body and resultant curved flares.

Sounds like we need to do a telethon to raise funds to buy Bob a new digital camera.

Who out there has NOT gotten at least $10 worth of help or great ideas from RallyBob? All we need is 10 to 20 people (more would be even better) to kick in a few bucks and Bob would be back in business.....

Now, Bob, you know we can't afford to get you a Cannon Digital Rebel.....

Everyone its time to "Belly Up to the Bar", "Step Up to the Plate", or... you know what I mean....

Gary is it okay if we paypal you the money? or would someone else like to be in charge. Maybe this needs its own thread... (moderator...)

Notice no smilie faces.... I didn't make the above request to be funny. I'm dead serious. We should do this...

Okay back to the original topic

Sounds like a plan to me. Somebody jump in and let's get the ball rolling. Anyone that's done a porting job, engine build, etc., and has gotten the info on how to from this forum, don't be bashful. Darn, even if you haven't done the previous tasks, jump in here, the reading is well worth it.

O.K. looks like there's a camera available, so the question is How much is Gene letting it go for, along with getting it to RB? I'm good for $20 right now, more if needed later. If Gene uses PayPal, I'll send it right now!!! How about the rest of your folkses out there?

I appreciate the thought guys, but the camera is a moot point. My home computer is shot....probably virus-laden, and certainly maxed out on memory.

At some point I need to get a new laptop in order to tune the Megasquirt, and when that happens I'll see about trying to 'rescue' the thousands of photos I have in the old PC. So even with a new camera I have no way to download the pics. I use a spare computer at my father's business when I'm there (as in right now), but the shop's systems operator won't let me load any software into it to accept my digital pics anyway (I won't get into how much of a jerk the guy is right now!).

So basically until I get a new computer and a new camera, I won't be posting any pics here for a while. Of course, since a lot of the stuff I do is 'unique' and hard to put into words, I figure I won't bother the forums with words only...makes it tough to 'see' what I'm doing at times. While it may seems like lately I haven't been too active, I simply haven't been documenting anything I'm doing, that's all. Of course, things move faster when I'm not taking pics!

Bob, et-at;
To me, the camera is nothing, right now, Ebay has them for $50 max. The camera is in like new condition, just older (1 mega-pixel), but, still takes great shots. I have several 8 mb cards to go with it, 5 in all, and I can also send the USB card reader and software. I go along with Bob, in that if he doesn't have a pc to do it, that's cool, but, still taking the pics and then later posting them would still be a great benefit. My offer still stands, as the camera is just sitting here not getting used.

Bob, here's a thought. I have external hard drives on two of my computers, One is a standard IDE drive, the other is a laptop mini drive disk, both are USB connected to any computer that has a USB port. They certainly cost less than a new computer($237 and $125) and are large enuff (80MB and 120MB) to have any program that would be on a normal computer. Point being, you could load all your stuff on an external drive and use the shop computer to access "your" programs from the external drive and not impact the shop computer at all.

I'm not even going to try to reason with you Ron, since I simply have no idea what you just said! Seriously though, I have no computer abilities at all. I know how to turn it on, and turn it off. And sometimes I screw that up. I don't even know how to back up files or install programs, I'm that dumb when it comes to computers. I don't even try anymore, I always screw things up.

Bob, Send your computer to me, I will try to fix it for you. I promise I will not lose anything on the hard drive. Hopefully the problem is not the hard drive otherwise all your pics will be MIA. I have TONS of parts from building all the machines for my business. If you send it, please send all documentation that you might have with it. Even if I can't fix it, maybe I can set you up with an older machine in the mean time.

Doggone it Baz, now I'm gonna have to turn on the other computers and see how big they are. I do know the Western Digital IDE is the smallest at 80? and the most expensive. The laptop drive is a 120? and the cheapest, although I did have to buy an external drive case for it, and an IDE to mini-disk drive adapter cable to format it initially. Even then the total cost for it was under $150. Boy did I screw that up. I just checked the drives, the Western Digital is a 150 GB and the laptop drive is only a 60 GB. Oh well, open foot, insert mouth.

Bob, even if you have no literacy on computers, that's o.k. because what you know about the CIH engines more than makes up for it. That, Sir, was the reason I opted to get into the "telethon" so that info would be available to those that need your expertise, which you so freely dispense here.
