Unanswered: GT: No rear bumpers from the factory?

This guy claims this GT came from the factory without rear bumpers!

Did they sell them this way?!

I have never heard of this, the GT/J was the most stripped down model that could be bought and that had black instead of chrome bumpers to cut down on cost.

Did the interior come with two tone door panels- I don't think I have ever seen an original two tone door panel- did Opel make them? Nice GT though.

Nope!

Someone has been sold a 'bill of goods' there - the bumpers had provision for the number plate lights on the end of them too ... so their removal has left this GT without that legal requirement.
If you look carefully there will be a Pink Pig ... flying ... in the background of one of the pictures there - the bumper mounting holes have been filled by some Previous Owner! for sure.

Would the DOT allow a car without rear bumpers of some type or another on the road?

Cars, I don't think so but I do remember pick up trucks could be purchased without a bumper in the 60's. The rear bumper was purchased separately! People buy trucks today without real back bumpers, some even remove the bumper and add a roll pan.

The seller says that his father bought the car in Germany and had it shipped back. It doesn't say that it was purchased from the factory but I'm sure that for something like that you would have to tell them at the factory not to do that. There is one way to see, pull the lights and look back there to see if they were patched.

Back in the day, did they have areas where you could free-form anything on the order sheet? Was there a special instructions area?

No longer available for sale

The seller ended this listing early because the item is no longer available for sale.
