Unanswered: 1969 GT 1.1L VIN & Date Help

Hello,

I am new to the forum. I just pruchsed a 1969 GT and a 1970 GT. I am trying to decide when in the production year this 69 was built. The VIN is 931736270. It has a 1.1L engine and the flat rear panel. The paint code is DD and the interior code is 751.

The 70 was built in Feb. of 1970 according to the door sticker. The VIN is 942093434. It has a 1.9L engine with an engine number of 19S-0515377. The paint code is 406 and the interior code is 751.

The 70 is a running drive able car, but has rust in the floor boards, rockers, and inner fenders. The 69 I bought as a parts donor, but it is also running and I have driven it around the yard. It also has rust issues, but I think it can and maybe should be rescued.

Any information about the approximate build date of the 69 would be greatly apprciated. I will most likely sell one or both vehicles in the near future, so if you have any interest, let me know. I am in Maryland.
Thanks.
Fred

Do you mind if I ask where and when you purchased these cars?

No problem. I purchased them yesterday and they came from the Baltimore area. I spent a good part of today looking them over and trying to sort out what I have.

Build Date

The 1970 1.1L Model Year (1 Sept 1969) started at Chassis # 93 1892645 so your 1.1 was built some time before that. There are links in the "68 GT" thread that give a more accurate time frame.
http://www.opelgt.com/forums/gt/15002-68-opel-gt.html

DD-HH = Strato Blue (DD = ??) 751 = Black

406 = Chartreuse (not a GT colour ??) There is a GT 416 code = Alpine White and a 446 = Chrome Yellow

Hello GTJim,

Thanks for the information. I did find a paint chip web site that listed the 1969 GT paint code DD as Regal Gold, and sure enough, that is what the original color appears to be. The site also listed the 1970 GT paint code of 406 as Chartreuse. The interior code of 751 as black makes sense as both of these cars have black interiors. I am thinking that the 1969 VIN of 931736270 puts it fairly early in the model year, perhaps like Nov. or Dec. of 1968. Maybe someone can at least verify what month it was made.

Update ...

OOps - did not see the DD-HH behind the colour code in the Opel Parts Book - makes a big difference!

Have a look through the convolutions of this thread:

http://www.opelgt.com/forums/gt/1261...8-opel-gt.html

especially the link in this post:

http://www.opelgt.com/forums/117670-post45.html

You can add your info to that listing ... in English if you 'click' on the bit in the LINK section, centre top of the page "Eingabeformular englisch".

I had a 69 1.1 and a 70 1.9 stolen from me in the southern PA area about 3 months ago, but they were both silver. I know who has them I thought maybe hes trying to sell them.

Man, I am sorry to hear that! The guy I got these two from has had them for about 7 years. They came with good titles, etc.
