White interior

What all was white with the white interior. Lets be specific. I know the dash was black, carpet was black, and console was black. Headliner was white, rear cover was white, door panels were white, and rear side panels were white...... Question was the front side kick panels white? Was the inner A pillar post covered white or black. Was the e-brake boot white? I am going with a white interior, just want to know definites on what is available in white. Also anyone covered their dash or anything else in white? Any luck on looking right?

I think the seats, rear side panels, the spare tire flap, headliner, the rear speaker deck and the "A" pillars were the only parts that were white.

I wanted to do my dash in white but was advised by several people that the sunglare would be very distracting. They suggested putting white paper on you dash and trying it. I did that and decided the white dash would bother me--so I am going with grey interior, which I hope will be better.

I think I have a factory white(buckskin) interior. The seats, door panels, spare tire cover, rear deck, A,B,&C pillars and headliner are white. The sun visors are black.

I saw some white sun visors on e-bay once. Are mine correct being black? It is a 1972 yellow GT. If anyone knows, please let me know.

Actually, I think the visors that came in the white interior were two sided, black on one white on the other.

I have a 72 with a white interior also... I agree with jlthunder... except I have white sunvisors. E-brake boot is black. I believe the kick panels are black but I will chack for you. I am the second owner and the original owner lives next door to me. I will verify that he had not changed anything.

On my 72 GT, both sunvisors are white and it has the original interior. but that's going to be changed during my V-6 mod and restoration.

My GT's all original and has a Buckskin (721) interior.

Everythings white, pillars, roof lining, rear tyre cover, sun-visors (both sides), kick panels and rear deck.

I'd definately avoid a white dash if only because it's very difficult to keep clean. One guy over here in the UK, 16valve GT, has had a white leather dash cover made which looks good apart from the fact that it gets dirty.

white interior

What I have seen is that the inner kick panels are black. The sun visors as far as I know came in white both sides. I believe it was the Manta that had the half white half black sunvisors, according to the parts books. I had one NOS at one time and was told they did that to reduce glare, so maybe it is better if the dash remains black due to glare factor. I will try the white paper on the dash idea.

white vs buckskin

My '72 is more off white than white. I know 30+ years can change colors, but even when I look at under pieces that haven't seen the sun in 30+ years, they are still off white. Is that what folks are calling buckskin? And in OGTS, the interior parts listed are called white....what color will I get if ordered? White like paper or off white? Also, is there already a thread started (that I can't find) that we're discussing what original mirrors, consoles, dome lights, etc came on what models? I've not gotten any good pics from my FSM. I've got a auto w/factory air and am wondering what my interior should look like.

There is a white like paper interior but few are intact now. There are two shades of the buckskin and black. Ok there was silver too but discontinued before producion really began. Seats, door covers, rear spare cover, package tray, interior panels all should match. There was never a white dash produced as stock.

Dome lights were never changed so any year will match.

A 72 came with a single mirror with a flat back on the drivers side only. 69 70 and a few 71s had the bullet type. From early 71 on there were also 2 sizes of mirror used.

different mirror

Thanks for the reply, nobody. Here's the mirror that I've got. Maybe someone replaced the original with this? Also, what color would you consider this?

Nice Interior. It appears the door panels and rear deck have been redone. On the door panels there is an area which is similiar to the pattern on the seats(rectangular). I don't know if the picture didn't pick it up or not. You also need the little covers on the vertical grab handle on the passenger door. The white ones turn to powder over time but black ones are available. OGTS has some black ones or some other member might have some you could paint white.

As far as the color, If you bought white vinyl at a fabric shop, it would be too white. It is more of an ivory color. I redid my white interior a couple years ago. The interior kit(headliner) from OGTS comes with enough extra material to cover all the a, b, & c pilliars and the piece under the spare tire cover. You have to get the spare tire cover seperatly. I just cleaned up my rear deck, door panels and rear kickplates(for the lack of a better name) to the best of my ability. The car looks good. If I ever get a digital camera, I will post some interior photos.

If you want interior door panels, I picked up a set at Carlisle last year. They are in "fair" condition.

Looks like you have all of the options, auto, air and rear defog. Have fun in HI with it. Has it ever been on the "Road to Hanna"?

Spyder- My 71 has the factory orig white interior, the car has only 42k orig miles, so I can accurately answer your questions on the A pillar, Emergency brake handle, kick panels, and visors... first, the color of the vinyl is absolutely a BONE white, more of an off white, almost like the shade of white plastic you see on most computer hardware, but maybe slightly lighter. If you're going for the original shade, don't go with a pure white, that would be way off. The A pillars covers in my car are original, and they're white. The E-brake handle cover is black, and the kick panels black. The only thing I changed in the interior were the visors. They were white on both sides, the pass side with a small mirror in the middle. I replaced the white visors with black ones. The old white ones were just too faded and filthy to attempt to save. Hope this answers you're question.

Interior help

jlthunder:
My doors have original upholstery as well. The pic didn't pick up the details. I'm looking to get new/replacement covers for my seats....just a small bit of wear on the driver's side where the bottom covers the metal frame. Also seam by driver's left shoulder has started to separate. My baby has not been on the road to Hana. It's on Maui and I'm on Oahu. Send me an email if you're ever headed towards the islands....

NineLivesGT:
From your description and looking at my baby, she's got all of her original interior still, including the visors. The rear deck and the tire cover have been modified to put 2 speakers on each piece, but it was done quite a while ago...after all, who puts "Realistic" speakers in anymore!! The only interior piece that I know is missing is the top cap that covers the screws holding the passenger door handle to the door. Happen to know where I can get one? Do you have any info on my driver's mirror? Does yours look like that?

netandtim-

The mirror on your car looks to have been pirated from a 70's Buick at some point along the way. I have an old Buick as a daily driver, and recognized the 3 shield Buick design on your mirror...exactly the same as my Buick's hood emblem. I was surfing for a clear picture of an old Buick hood emblem, and came across this link:http://hometown.aol.com/equipoise60/images/grille1.jpg... check Buick emblem shown.

GT's all came through with plain, flimsy round outside mirrors. Personally, I hate the factory mirror. I replaced it with a sportier style, similar to what I'd seen from photographs of the Steinmetz & Conrero GT's circa 35 yrs ago. I would leave the mirror on your car exactly as it is, it's an older Buick piece, but every US spec GT did sell through a Buick dealership... it could very well have been that the dealer installed it. For what it's worth, the flimsy factory outside mirrors tend to just flop down at anything over 60 mph.
