Famous Opel GTs ?

I am looking for a unique paint job for my 70 Gt and wondered about the possibility of ralley car clone or a popular autocross clone?
Does anyone have pics of anything like this?
I am in the middle of stripping the body back to metal and priming.
I really like the idea of painting it to resemble a 67 Ford GT in the red-blue ala Lemans 1967?
Any ideas?
Thanks

OH OH OH That's me, Check out my pics in members section, I went with the Gulf GT40 colors on my car. When I drove the race car back from the painters (cop did not see me I did not do it) It got all kinds of looks. Open exahust did not help...but it was fun.

Cherokee.....That must be your Gt that is blue and red in the members pics section huh?
I really like your car but want something just a bit different, maybe the red/orange would not only be on the front and tail but along the rockers also?
Thanks for the link baz, I checked it out and found some things I liked.
I wonder if any Opels ran in the Mexico ralleys in 70's ? I just want something different , the GT has such great lines for a race car paint job.

Conrero GT

Here:

Conrero GT's

I like the blue/yellow combination...but then you'll need flares, and wider rims.

Scott exactly the style I was looking for !!!
I really like the riveted fender flares, wide tires and ralley lights.
Hmmmmmmmm, now where do I find the flares ? Maybe some aluminumn slots and old race decals too!!
I like the rough and ready feel these types of GTs have and mine is not a show car by any means.
I gotta get back out to the shop and rub on my GT some more!!!!!

I've always thought it might be neat to copy the two tone layout scheme of the 78 Indy Pace Car Corvette, seeing how the stingray body so strangely resembles the GT...

No Opels were harmed in the filming of this movie.
However two Mustangs, a Pinto, and a Capri were hospitalized.
One Mustang was euthanized the next morning.

It's a bit hard to see (this was an old photo, circa 1982, that I scanned), but the front GT is mine, and has a modified Silver Anniversary paint scheme. The back car was Myrna's GT, but a year or so later, was sent to its grave by a Chevy Van (boo hoo)

OGTS has the flares

OGTS has the flares.

The rally lights can be gotten easy enough. I think I saw a set on eBay going pretty cheap this morning.

Driving lights where the big yellow things are= Halogen Tractor Lights. Just cut the tractor lights out of their rubber housing, and create a spacer out of pvc pipe for their attachment inside the opening. Then rewire the switch to light with one of your dash switches (I used the parking light switch, as I wanted my driving lights operating with my parking lights).

OGTS Catalog

Race replicas

Brother Bob-

I'm doing exactly what your idea is to "replicate" an old Opel race car. I'm just finishing the paint on it now.

It will be the red #130 Conrero race car.

CarneroGt....wow we must have seperated at birth!
I think the GT body just lends its self to being a race car!
Now I have some ideas that I need to take action on.1
1. Fender flares riveted on
2. Front and rear spoilers
3. Aluminum slots and wide tires (wonder how big you can go w/o cutting?)
Wonder if anyone has any used parts they want to donate
I raced (dirt) air cooled minis for a few years and really loved it and would love to find some time for some asphalt!!
Thank everyone so much for the pics and such I am really excited about getting this car together (as time permits).
Gonna get some more time this weekend for blasting and sanding......I have never seen so much Bondo in one car.

Too much Bondo® :

There was a complete fiberglass nose on eBay yesterday. It didn't even have the headlight cut-outs.

Where in Texas do ya' live? I grew-up in Balmorhea. "Where's that?" Just East of the "fork in the road," for Interstate-10 & Interstate-20. Now I live near Galveston.

Your right ....I thought I knew of every Tejas town but no idea where Balmorhea is.
Yeah the PO never worked a dent out he just covered them up!
I am taking the car back to bear metal and POR-15 for primer. I have got real aquainted with my DA and stripper every weekend! 3 coats of yellow and and a single coat of black , oh what fun.
