According to the Magazines of the Day...
Here are some specs from the "Brooklands Books Opel GT 1968 - 1973" Notice the weight of the 1.1 versus the 1.9, and the degradation of performance in the auto tranny and low compression models:
Page 17, an article from Sports Car World magazine Nov 1968 titled "GM's (Germany) New GT": 1969 1.1 GT 4-speed, kerb weight 1863 lb, top speed 95 mph, 0-60 mph in 16.3 sec Page 31, an article from Motorcade magazine June 1969: 1969 1900 cc GT 4-speed, curb weight 2072 lbs., top speed 115 mph, standing 1/4 mile 17.3 secs. 75 mph, 0-60 mph 11.5 secs. That's what always puzzled me, how all the magazine tests of the day had different weights.

In an attempt to get the following numbers for my EV conversion (Yes.. it has gone from a Manta to the Kadett to a GT Now) and keep it all in one thread we can find later.. I have to ask.
Given we know these numbers (From GM and assorted magazines) : 1969 1.1 GT 4-speed, curb weight 1863 - 1881 lbs 1969 1900 cc GT 4-speed, curb weight 2070 - 2109 lb What is the approximate wieght of: 1.1L Motor ( W/ Accessories ) 1.9L Motor ( W/ Accessories ) - 320 lbs? ( 275 lbs, +/-45 lbs Manifolds, Alternator, Carb, Starter, etc.. ) Manual Transmission - 75 lbs ? Automatic Transmission - 125 lbs ? 1.1L Front suspension & Engine cradle 1.9L Front suspension & Engine cradle 1.1L Rear end (w/ brakes) 1.9L Rear end (w/ brakes) - 200 lbs? Weight of exhaust - 20 lbs ? Wieght of gas tank - 10 lbs ? Wieght of radiator and hoses - 10 lbs ? Wieght of headlight buckets & assembly w/ cables, etc.. - 25 lbs ? Trying to lighten the load of the EV as much as possible.. so thinking of using a 1.1L rear end. I found a 3.18 will be best for my top speed of the EV if I go direct drive, then I may stick with a Kadett rear end I do have that has a 3.18 gear in it. But if the wieght is distinctively lower between the rear ends, then I may go for the lighter rear end instead. I assume the curb wieghts do not include fluids, maybe the spare tire or driver either, because that would just about account for the 2400-2500 "test wieghts" listed by a few magazines. Any help here would be great. I am sure others doing EV< or engine transplants would be curious as well.

The links have been posted several times
so you might have to do a search I am in Iraq so I don't have any of my saved links on the install I would recommend doing it yourself Ive been taking classes at the local jr college (I hope to start up again this summer) anyway the class would have all the info and tools you would need the latests thing is to glue the body panels on (no kidding thats what the instructor told me) you could get a carbon fiber hood done at RaceOn USA.com (I remember that name since they did a fiberglass hood for my MR2) but you would have to send them an example HTH davegt27 |
