Height Restriction in GT
My dad had a GT when he was younger is now interested in restoring one with me. I'm 15 now and am just shy of 6'4" tall is there anyway that I could ride in one of these cars. It would need to be comfortable because as it would be my daily driver. Any thoughts or suggestions grately appriciated.

With the seat all the way back and it slightly reclined, I think you would fit. I wouldn't use it as a daily driver. Certainly not a winter driving car.

this has been asked many many times. use the websites search feature, its really great, moderaters get grumpy when new threads are started on old subjects, can't blame them a single bit tho. just add posts to old ones if you can, i'm 6"2', drive mine daily in the summer with plenty of room. my 6'3" friend with a bushy haircut can sit in the car with his hair barely rubbing, but i think his hair accounts for 3 inches its self.

Seat mod
JeffinMaine,
Ging's Husband Dan here. I'm 6'4" and don't have any problem with leg room. I think I could probably sleep in the thing. I do find it a bit narrow however. I just did a mod to the wife's GT to move the seat forward. No reason you couldn't do the same to move it slightly backwards. Provided there is enough room. I posted a new thread here hope this is worth something. |

well im 6'0 and have absolutey no problem with room , it is fun to drive.. although while sitting in the passenger side it is a little scarey because the leg room is narrower. they make a good first car, can't wait until spring so i can pull mine back out.by the way my brother is 6'3 and fits good in passenger side

Well, on the topic of height, I'm 16 and about 6'1" with no problem except on speed bumps. I have learned to duck my head down right before my rear wheels go over the bump leavin my school. But..on another note....its gettin close to winter bein through, but ive been drivin my opel since probably october. Why does everyone recommend against winter driving? All of the rain and snow (rust problems)? Greetings from South Carolina

My dear Aunt Evelyn was 6'2". Her husband, Francis, was 5'6". My good old Dad used to say, "When yer nose to nose yer toes are in it: when yer toes to toes yer nose is in it..." A dear friend in Great Falls MT is 6'8". His sweet wife is the most darling little petite 5'2" you ever saw!

No Opels were harmed in the filming of this movie. However two Mustangs, a Pinto, and a Capri were hospitalized. One Mustang was euthanized the next morning. |

Jeff;
You can ask Dan (aka Mr Ging) on this, but, me and my wife are the same, I'm 6'4" and my wife is 5' my "baby" sister is 5'8" and my tallest sister is 5'11". At my wedding, we had to put my wife on 4 hymn books in order for her to somewhat look "taller" when they took pics of her and my sisters.LOL

JeffinMaine,
I think the comments on winter driving are from two angles - one, that the heaters aren't the 'hottest' and two, that the little devils get attitude about cranking in really cold weather. Both of which are fixable to an extent. Plus, it all depends on what you're willing to put up with, per se, in order to have a vintage car or how much you want to modify and upgrade. Like my husband said his height isn't an issue, just a bit narrow in the bottom of the well for his size 12 feet. Particularly in work boots. He's always hitting the washer pedal by accident.Seems like a lot of tall guys here marry short girls. Maybe so they can fit in the GT's without any problem. You may want to consider that in prospective girlfriends. Then you can have pictures like Gene's or mine. In my wedding pics it looked like a grey pencil married a marshmellow.

First before you say we don't have any real cold weather here in Middle TN, you're right, but it does on occasion drop down close to zero. On one such occasion when my GT was a daily driver it was the only vehicle that we had that would start. My wife said she passed several cars parked along the interstate on the way to work. The only problem she had was the car never reached operating temperature. She place cardboard over the radiator before coming home and cured the problem.
Heaters aren't that bad in a GT once you clean out all of the Bar's Stop Leak, fix the heater valve and clean out all the trash the mice have packed in the blower housing. If a GT is "right" it doesn't take much to start it. My experience with GT's in bad winter weather is lack of traction and the rearend sometimes will try to get out from under you, real quit. And there's always that RUST thing! Harold |

winter driving
I`d never drive my 73gt on snow or ice now. No reason to risk the old gal after all these years. I bought my first gt new 1n 73, in Wisconson. Drove it every day for 3 yrs and 97K miles. Ice snow blizzards, you name it, she went through it, Including the storm that sank the Edmund Fitzgerald !! Always stayed nice and toasty in her and never got stuck. Whoops, guess I gave away my age ( 59 ) 2 days ago. O`well better old than the alternative I guess.
Keep em on the road and enjoy em. They need to be driven to stay happy and healthy. Nothing keeps me and my GT happier than a crooked road and no cops. Duane |
