I've had an entire shell including glass with interior in the back of a 1/2 ton Silverado truck and it didn't bottom out. Cut in 4 pieces two people can pick it up. The entire rear clip from the doors back with tank can be weighed if you want. As well as doors and glass or whatever. I need to gather up some weights anyway so I'll take a scale to the shop and have at it. I'll put a list together and put it on later.

A few weights.

tranny 43
bellhousing 8
clutch 9
flywheel 22
dorrs with glass 40
windshield 21
back glass 10
rear diff complete 125
engine block with pistons rods and crank 145
radiator 14
engine cross member 13
front suspension cross only 18
lower A arms 4
upper A arms with spindles 6
door glass 6
solex 4
intake manifold 2
exhaust manifold 11
colector back to first muffler 2
roof section with A, B and C pillers 37
front rotors 12
calipers 7
seats 26
head complete 63

alternator 7

rear section from B piller back including tank 210

with those numbers in mind and guessing a bit I'd say the shell completely stripped down would be around 700 pounds

Let's just say that with 3 more cuts my Opel GT drag car shell will wiggle like a Hula Girl! I've been slowed a little in my construction, but just keep watching and I'll let you know when the Luau is!

My testimony will be that a GT with engine and tranny removed, no glass, no interior whatsoever, doors off, gas tank out, headlights gone, can then be steered into the shop where four good sized guys can grab it, rotate it, and set it on the chassis jig, tires and all.
Been there, done it.
Bill, I know the GT hula wiggle. Once the front fenderwells are gone it begins, then cut the top off! I hope yours is on a jig...

No Opels were harmed in the filming of this movie.
However two Mustangs, a Pinto, and a Capri were hospitalized.
One Mustang was euthanized the next morning.

Jig is next on the list;for chassis/frame and body fitting....That's why I haven't finished my 3 cuts yet...It wouldn't be pretty.....

You are forgetting the wheels and tires, those are about another 150lb. Headlight buckets are missing too. Plus all of the misc interior stuff. If you start adding up all the interior pieces, carpet, padding, dash, consol, gauge cluster ect... it adds up to a lot. They may not be much each but think about how heavy all that stuff is when you put it all in the same box for storage, they start getting pretty hefty.

My guess for the shell would be right around 600lb.

I based the weight guesstimate on the actual weight of a section I've cut and moved before and then added in the difference that I remember to move the front ( took 3 people for it ). I also added in the known weights for the remaining pieces.

I also didn't include fluid weights, a slew of fasteners, dash, shocks, a few front end pieces, hoses and belts.

No, that is way too high.

I currently have the car stripped down to the bone. Not a single piece installed on it at the moment. Me and a friend lifted the body up off the jackstands and moved it a couple feet without breaking a sweat. I would say it's 400 pounds. If it were 600 pounds, we would have been really stuggling to lift it.

400 would be a bit hard with the known weights I already posted. From the doors back with just a tank in it is 210. There is right at 300 to 325 not including any of the nose or firewall. I'll weigh the nose after I pick it up.

Yesterday I had to move Parts GT to a less conspicuous area of the yard. Would have been a snap with a few guys to help but I was on my own.
The photo shows how simple it was, understand that this car is as stripped as possible except for it does still have the front suspension crossmember with only left side A arms and spindle/hub on.
Once it was moved and back on the ground, by myself I could swivel and scoot it into perfect position for further storage.
The truck and its rigging indicated that there was no appreciable weight on the boom. It has worked a lot harder than that!!!

Hey,
I think I can account for the discrepency in GT weights.
You are all forgetting to subtract the weight of that part of the car which is no more. I'm talking about the parts that have rusted away!
We've all seen GT's which have unfortunately fallen victim to nature's weight reduction program.
Of course it's also possible for that loss in mass to be replaced by bondo!
