I've had an entire shell including glass with interior in the back of a 1/2 ton Silverado truck and it didn't bottom out. Cut in 4 pieces two people can pick it up. The entire rear clip from the doors back with tank can be weighed if you want. As well as doors and glass or whatever. I need to gather up some weights anyway so I'll take a scale to the shop and have at it. I'll put a list together and put it on later.

My testimony will be that a GT with engine and tranny removed, no glass, no interior whatsoever, doors off, gas tank out, headlights gone, can then be steered into the shop where four good sized guys can grab it, rotate it, and set it on the chassis jig, tires and all.
Been there, done it. Bill, I know the GT hula wiggle. Once the front fenderwells are gone it begins, then cut the top off! I hope yours is on a jig... Last edited by jeff denton; 07-28-2005 at 10:26 PM.. |

No Opels were harmed in the filming of this movie. However two Mustangs, a Pinto, and a Capri were hospitalized. One Mustang was euthanized the next morning. |

It's NOT the speed, BUT the sudden stop...

My guess for the shell would be right around 600lb. |

I based the weight guesstimate on the actual weight of a section I've cut and moved before and then added in the difference that I remember to move the front ( took 3 people for it ). I also added in the known weights for the remaining pieces.
I also didn't include fluid weights, a slew of fasteners, dash, shocks, a few front end pieces, hoses and belts. |

I currently have the car stripped down to the bone. Not a single piece installed on it at the moment. Me and a friend lifted the body up off the jackstands and moved it a couple feet without breaking a sweat. I would say it's 400 pounds. If it were 600 pounds, we would have been really stuggling to lift it. |

Yesterday I had to move Parts GT to a less conspicuous area of the yard. Would have been a snap with a few guys to help but I was on my own.
The photo shows how simple it was, understand that this car is as stripped as possible except for it does still have the front suspension crossmember with only left side A arms and spindle/hub on. Once it was moved and back on the ground, by myself I could swivel and scoot it into perfect position for further storage. The truck and its rigging indicated that there was no appreciable weight on the boom. It has worked a lot harder than that!!! Last edited by jeff denton; 11-19-2007 at 01:30 AM.. |

Hey,
I think I can account for the discrepency in GT weights. You are all forgetting to subtract the weight of that part of the car which is no more. I'm talking about the parts that have rusted away! We've all seen GT's which have unfortunately fallen victim to nature's weight reduction program. Of course it's also possible for that loss in mass to be replaced by bondo! -Jonzo
