Thats why its always good to have a backup speedometer on hand.

My car is insured through Hagerty, I sent them pictures and a complete description of what was done to the car, before I put the interior in. It is insured for $30K, I don't have any mileage restriction but I can't use it as a daily driver, only for special trips and shows. Cost $250/Yr with $250-500 liability limits, seems like a great deal to me.

Sounds like an awesome deal. All the "blood, sweat and tears" put into your Opel is always priceless, but having it insured for that kind of money really makes you feel a little better when driving it. Hell, that might even pay for the labor

Just a quick question about value of an 71 GT Automatic i have. I'd have to say its a #4 on the rating but the interior is ****! I was thinking of keeping it as a parts cars for my 69 gt but i came across a dirty cheep parts car with ALL the right parts! so i thought i might sell the 71 GT and after reading the ratings i noticed it didnt say anything about manual or automatic trans...
So anyways would the 71 GT be worth more with an automatic or not??

Like I said a few posts back.. I personally am looking for a Automatic GT.. and I would pay more for it.. Others would not and see it as more work because they would want to convert it to a 5 speed.. etc. etc...

So depends on the buyer.. I would add $200-$400 to the price your thinking of selling it for the Automatic.. because I personally think they are worth a little more since its harder to convert a manual to an Automatic than the other way around (as the tunnel sheetmetal is larger). So if someone wants an Automatic they almost have to get an automatic..

Can I definately say they are worth more? No..

As I look for a GT for my wife, am I willing to pay more? Yes.

Um, are you sure about that Charles? That is true regarding the 1.1 vs the 1.5/1.9 Kadett, but AFAIK the GT's all had exactly the same stampings, even to the point that the automatic GT's have the clutch cable stamping in the firewall

Keith;
I think you are right on this one. I noticed this myself when I started seeing a few auto GTs. Opel's way of thinking ahead and saving $$$

Play it cool!

I agree with OPELJIM.... A car is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay for it.

When you find a car in your area that interests you, but the seller is asking too much, politely thank them for their time and give them your card (name & number). When the seller finds he hasn't sold the car for what he's asking... you may just get a call.

Whatever you do, don't show the seller too much interest, afterall as much as we love GT's... they're not the Ferrari's some owners think they have discovered in their back yard.

Nope not positive.. I may be confusing the Manta with the GT.

That said, if your wanting an Automatic GT.. to convert a non-automatic GT to an Automatic requires a bit of effort and cost and to convert an automatic or manual to the other does require a bit of work in either direction. Not to mention cost.

That I find to be the best option of all

Guy in my area had a Manta in rough shape that wants $700.. but you can see through the frame rail from the engine bay !!! He came down to $500.. close and almost considered it. That said, the frame damage is so much I wouldn't even consider the car for anything much more than parts. Its hard to spend money on a parts car when you don't even own a car that you need parts for yet.

But overall show interest, and make sure they know you are local and can take the car off their hands if they don't sell it. Because when someone wants $2000 for a rough #6.. they won't sell it.

That said, IF they by chance do sell it for that.. you need to find the owner and help him out, because he obviously never read this thread and may not know where to go for help.

5000 for 3 gt"s is about right. especially when he restored or whatever. and even if theyve been sitting especially in a garage. that should have protected them some.

rip to whoever he was.

some people try and state these cars arent that rare. well i see more 58 plymouth furys, amc pacers "the waynes world car" ford rancheros "yes the little truck car ones" gremllins, pintos and other super rare cars more than the opel.

ive never seen an opel on the road running anywhere in the usa in close to 40 years. the chevette is a close second sadly.
