My '72 has this. This is the key reminder buzzer. If you leave your key in your ignition, it will buzz when the engine is off and the drivers door is open. It should not buzz if your key is not in the ignition and the door is open.

HTH

Does it buzz when you leave the lights on and you open the door?

It only activates with the key and door. It is independent of the lights. When I turn the key off, the headlights turn off automatically. Is yours a GT-J? In the GT-J you have to switch the headlights on at the dash if I'm correct.

My 1970 version has that buzzer. Typically the previous owners have pull that lead off the fuse box. Mine still works!

drove me insane - i was driving home from school at 1 am (heh) and my headlights cut out on me, and i'm driving in the dark. flip em, flip em back. nothing. pull it over, turn on the hazards.

after a bit, i finally just got fed up and switched every switch i could find, finally gettin the lights to come on. i was flabbergasted. never needed to 'flik' the switch before that. got it home, found out the next day that i was driving a fire hazard as i never knew about hte wire problem for lights in most opel. repaired the wires, basically replacing them, and away she goes.

your post about that dash switch reminded me of that. i guess that means i have the GT/j.

GT/J's were not imported into the US market. If you have a switch for the parking lights, then a blank and then the dash light dimmer, you have a standard U.S. spec GT. If the headlights normally came on when you flipped them over, you have the regular GT.

If you have a parking light switch, then a headlight switch and then the dimmer, it is possible you have a GT/J. You would always have to turn the headlights on manualy, via the switch, in the GT/J. A GT/J would not have an Amp or Oil pressure gauge either, just a light. There are other differences, just search the site. HTH

i have a question about the buzzer...i have a 73 that starts to buzz when i turn the key to the on position with the door open...shouldnt it just buzz when the door is open and the key in the ignition? cuz my key actually has to be turned on til it buzzes...

It should buzz as long as the key is in the ignition, but the engine is off. It should not buzz when the key is in the "on" or "run" position. I know the late '72 and '73 had a seatbelt light and buzzer. Could this be the source of your buzzing?

Anyone here have a working seat belt light and buzzer to confirm this?

ok well it buzzes when the engine is now running, with the door open...but the key has to be turned in the on position not just in the ignition...

i noticed that the sound seems to be coming from my starter so maybe its not the door buzzer, or the buzzer is up under the dash and would make it sound like its the starter...maybe ill just unhook the door buzzer so i dont have to worry about the thing....

My 73 still has the seat belt buzzer hooked up. It goes off if you sit in the seat with the key on and the parking brake released. key off-no buzz, parking brake set-no buzz. The only time it buzzes is if you are in the car and ready to drive without putting on your belt. Not a bad thing if you if your in a hurry and forget. Here in Or its a $94 ticket if you get caught, not to mention the Dr bill.

Here in Georgia its like 15.

When I got my 73 GT, the buzzer was already disconnected. When my Uncle told what it was, I just decided to let it ride.
