Stock Engine Bay color

I've done the home work (search) but found no answer.

Can someone tell me what was the original color off the engine bay?
Same as the rest off the car, black...?

I'm sure there's a story (or urban legend) about post-was Opels not being sold in black...
The only production black Opels (70's) that I'm aware of are the Broadspeed Manta's...

I have brochures from many, but not all, years with available colors listed, none show black as an option.

arh but the broadspeed is not a production car
its a custom special

Robbie, don't forget the Manta Black Magic special edition. AFAIK it's a true production car (complete with funky plaid seat upholstery!). None made it stateside however. If Robbie doesn't have one, it probably doesn't exist!

While there was no full black body colour listed for GTs mine had the area under the back edge of the hood (with the vent grille and w/screen wiper mounting plate) painted black, originally. The rest was Strato Blue.

Funny you should mention that Bob.....

As for the Broadspeeds....they left the Opel factory as black Berlinetta's...(apart from the yellow prototype).

Jim, as far as I know, all GTs had the area just in front of the windscreen painted black, along with the wiper arms and the entire cowl coverings from fender to fender. I believe it was for safety purposes so you wouldn't get blinded by the sun's glare if you happen to be in a specific position where the sun could reflect off the paint in that area.

Doggone it Jim. Now, I'm gonna have to go outside and look at Willit?'s hood, although the Lenk Tuning hood is a bit different, I think it's close enuff to see what I need to look for. BRB. O.K. it's a bit of a stretch, but the attached pic shows, kinda how much of the cowl is visible, so maybe, you could get some sun glare.

I gotta get back outside on the big rig, this is too much fun.

I have a color chip chart for every year of the GT and none of them have black as an option. The only black is as mentioned just behind the back of the hood and in front of the windshield.

I've only mentioned Black, not for the hole car, but just for the engine bay.
