Unanswered: 3d Model of Opel GT
Does anyone have an image of a GT simular to the attached image of a skyline? We do computer animation and have a history with Opels. If there isn't a 3d model available, we may try to make one. It would look something like this when done (warning-2mb-file) http://www.dustinproductions.com/fil...ound-DPLLC.m1v Thanks, David

Dustin;
There's someone on this site that has dome one for a computer game he's producing. Also, just to let you know, since I noticed you're in Adairsville, you might want to look up Dan (Mr Ging) and Ging (Ging) White. They are member's there in Adairsville too. Also, if you have a GT or Opel that runs, come on down to Snellville this weekend for the Orphan Car Show. The local Opelers, we have our own forum on this site (GA Opelers) and get details, if not, PM me and I'll provide more. But, we're looking to have about 10+ Opels there this Saturday. Welcome to the community!! Gene

Met Dan this morning
Gene,
I stopped and talked to Dan this morning, seems like a good guy. He told me about the event this weekend. I'm trying to see if I can make it. Thanks, David

Ger Peters
I wonder if the Ebay artist was Ger Peters that was selected by the Dutch Opel GT club to design a T shirt.

Not Ger Peters
Ger Peters responded to my email and stated it was not his cartoon artwork on Ebay.

Here is a link to another thread where we posted some images of the model.
Right now the model is almost 900,000 polygons (that's big).

Need some reference images Please
Hey,
I thought I would post a short update on the Opel-GT 3d Model and ask for some help. The 3d Model was created in a software package called Rhino. While this is a very good design software, it is not the software we use to create our vehicle animations. That being said we are converting it to a 3ds Max model. The young man who modeled the vehicle did so from images I believe, and there is something not right with the upper cowl area where the hood sits in the closed position. I don't currently own a GT, so I was hoping someone could help me out. Here is a screen shot of the model (yes there are a lot of polygons) www.dustinproductions.com/opelgt/GT-cowl.jpg I was wondering if someone could take some close up images (with a ruler in the image would be desired) of the area indicated in the screen shot, I would appreciate it very much. I have set up an email address at opelgt@dustinproductions.com if you could be so kind as to send any images you can. Best regards

Hey David,
What file formats does Rhino output? Obj? Will you be selling the model once you're finished? I built a crude 3D model way back in the early 90s using Alias software. I used that to render out my design to give to the body shop to execute. I've since thrown that data away because it was on 1/4" cartridge tapes and that medium is pretty archaic nowadays. I'd love to get a 3D model of the GT again. Best, Manny |

Many,
I already have the model as an obj, and it is really rough in that format (850,000 polygons). As far as selling it... The original creator asked I check with him before doing so. I easily have weeks of work to finish the conversion to something I would find useable. Best regards

That's my old GT. I got her off an old USAF guy who was going back to the US to retire. The day i meet him i spent 1hr chatting GT's before he openned the garage to show my 'Tango' in her bespoke cover!
Amazingly it took 10hrs to get those pics. A lorry came to came pick me and her up at 4am, photo's started at 8am, finished at 6pm and by 8pm on the way back home the driver of the lorry was falling asleep at the wheel........scary!! I suggested that I drive the lorry the rest of the way and by 10pm we were back to my house to unload.....thankfully in one piece.

3D CNC program
I don't do a lot of 3D CNC machining, mostly 2-1/2 axis.
I do have CAM software that can convert an IGS, IGES file into a CNC program. Maybe I could cut a 3D model of a GT from a block of wood, clear acrylic or aluminum...... I have a friend that has a scanner, maybe scan a plastic model I have? Not sure how this works. Could be a fun project and learn something new! My uncle spent his 'retirement funds' on a bunch of equipment to cut out trim pieces and make custom cabinet doors and such. I know he can't do a whole 3D model, but he does make these things on plexi-glass where he barely takes any material off, and when it's held up to light, it looks identical to the original picture. He has done many pictures of my cousins kids for my Grandma and they look amazing. He charges a LOT though.
