Still in hiding
Opelfiend and all,
She's still in hiding. Received some offers, but will probably hold out until the Tacoma Opel show in July, wherein she will be trailered to the show as is. I'm no mechanic, and unless proven otherwise, think it would be best delivered in original condition so the owner can refurb as they see fit. RR |

Update 7/13
Sorry to bring this geriatric thread back to life, but just wanted to let everybody know we'll be showing her at the Tacoma Opel show on July 21st so as to get some valuable feedback from some of the local specialists, and to try to place some sort of value on it. FYI we've had offers in the $14K range (not including transport to the UK), but I think grandma is holding out for slightly more.
Since there really are no comparables out there (that I know of at least) it will be interesting to see what the smart guys think of her in person. It will of course come down to finding the right person who wants an original to refurb as they see fit. The potential value will be in the eye of the beholder(s). I know that the original tires are holding air just fine, but beyond that I'm not touching a thing, and leaving it up to anyone in attendance to place their own personal valuation on it. I will of course do everything in my power to document any comments I get from the specialists, and post accordingly. Thanks again to all of you for the spirited comments and recommendations. Best, RR |

Good luck and be careful moving her around. (don't use that "tow eye" by the front bumperette, I swear I read once that wasn't actually intended for towing but was used as a tie down for transport, probably some myth i picked up somewhere.....)

Oh damn! I was vacationing near this show just in May!
I did warn the girlfriend that one of our vacations just may coincide with a car show. Focusing on Opels and VW's of course. I sure wish I could be there to see this car! I won't be in the area again until Sept. You see, we sorta have developed this addiction to Washington. Thinking of a move if the cards play right. Thanks for the pics. It's fortunate I have a drool proof keyboard! Dennis C~ |

For those who can't attend the showing...
And even those that can. A couple things of note:
While only those in attendance will be able to smell the 35 yr old "new car smell", I'm hoping to get several of the specialists there to validate its originality and potentially its value. I'm going to try to get written documentation of their opinions, or at least use their contact info as reference for prospective buyers. Unless someone shows up with a wad of cash tomorrow at the show, the plan is to do an auction within the next few weeks. We have a website up now, that contains an email address for ongoing inquiries (mine is getting buried by this thing). Soon to have additional pics from the show, experts comments, and possibly auction information. The website can be found at: Voronica - Oma'sGold If it rains we'll be under a white 10x10 popup tent. Either way just look for a 11-week old baby bulldog (for security purposes). Lastly, and most importantly, I'd like to thank this forum, and all the posters for your opinions and comments. The original intent of this thread was just to get information to try and help out grandma. Needless to say I got that and much more. While not an "Opeler" or even a car-guy myself, I feel like a part of this community now, thanks to all of you fine folks. And a special thanks to MawandPaw for the invite to the show - which will most likely determine the future of this piece of history. Warmest regards to all, Rod and Voronica Robinson Last edited by wodawic; 07-21-2007 at 12:04 AM. |

Hoax of mystery car ?????
For whatever reason, I have had this strange feeling that this was a teaser from day one. I may be wrong but where are all the posts of those who went to the July show to "smell" it. None that I have found. And no reply to Jim M that I am aware of causes greater doubt in my mind. What about you Rob - can you prove me wrong?

I'm not sure what you meant by teaser, but the car was for real. I took my granddaughter to that Opel meet in Spanaway, WA and got to view the car. They even let me open and close the door just so I could feel the fit of a new car door. I've never heard if they have sold it or not. They were very nice people when meeting for the first time.

I saw the car at the washinton show . brought in on a car deck. It's the real deal & yes it does still have that new car smell.Thing to note though when it was taken off the deck it had to be dragged off . Wheels probably seized. To get this car in running order your going to have to spend some time & money. The interior I believe was the same as mine . Buckskin I believe they call it.Would be nice to see this car have a life again.Dollar value is hard to say.It could be put in a museum or sold to someone who would really eppreciate it .my guestimate would be 15 to 20 thousand but some people have deeper pockets than me so who knows.

I also saw this car in tacoma. I was told reason it was not driven on an off trailer was the question of weather the hoses for brakes, gas an the like were in good enough condition to handle it. I heard the 12-15k numbers being tossed around at the meet but they were just getting a feel for the value.
It was awesome to see in person but I know with mine being parked for the last 12 its REAL hard on them.. unless they have been complete prepped before had wich mine was not IT was nice an the real deal but to make at least road worthy I would consider repalcemnet of all rubber hoses belts an the like prolly couple grand. then your going to want to keep it in climet controlled environment to preserve your work

I must say that ANYONE doubting this Beautiful "Time Capsule" missed a once in a life time auto. Yes we were honored with "OMA'S GOLD" at our car show last July here in Tacoma. I can still remember sitting in those original seats, and smelling the scent of a new car!! Yes, indeed it was all there. This car is no joke....It is for real. We have not heard from Voronica since
shortly after the show. Perhaps Rod will see the reply's and get back to the site with an up date. MAWANDPAWOPEL
