Newby from the 70's
Hello Guys, new to the Opel forum and this posting stuff so hope to pick it all up as I go along. I’m from South Africa, now living in Dubai and decided to get back to my roots and check out the Opel sites a few weeks ago. So glad I did, as most impressed with this site and the enthusiasm for the classic Opels.
Completed my engineering training at the General in the Early 70’s and up to my eyeballs in modding Kadetts & Vivas (pushrod), Mantas, Rekords and a host of other GM products during that time. Raced an A Kadett for many years and have a love and respect for this little vehicle above any other. Some of the history is a little rusty but would like to help revive some interest in the pushrod engines, look forward to coms and learning from what is clearly a very knowledgeable and friendly group of people. Kind regards, Paul |

Thank you for the welcome, sadly do not own an Opel now but do run a Lumina Coupe (Monaro), which is great out here on these amazing roads in the desert. Owning an Opel for me would require that it be an A Kadett and seriously modified and that needs time to 'fiddle' and a good home W/Shop, neither of which are practical right now so best to hang on and do it properly.

In what way are they not working? Wouldn't roll over? Don't come on? It could be a number of things. First the original wiring from the radiator wall forward has bad insulation and is probably flaking off if it has not already been changed. This could lead to a short or a fire. Second, if the lights are not rolling completely over and locking into place, the microswitches may not be closing allowing them to turn on. There could be host of other problems. Please give us more information.
