New member for Uruguay South America

Hello, mi name is Ricardo and I´m from Uruguay a little country of South America, between Argentina and Brasil.
Few weeks ago I bought one Opel Kadett B LS coupe from 1973, and by all appearances in good condition.
Because I´m fan of Historic Regularity Rallies, my intention is to prepare it for this kinds of competitions. In the first step, I´m thinking change the 1,1 L. engine for a 1,9, and finally to transform the car in a Rallye Model with some special equipment for racing.
If someone knows this type of work, welcome your advices.
Sorry my poor english.
Any pictures of my new car....

Hi;
You have a real nice looking Kadett there. I like your idea of making a clone Rallye, but, as I understand, that changing the 1.1 cars to the 1.9 involves replacing the front suspension from a 1.9 car, and depending on the transmission in the car, the trans tunnel "may" need to be reworked to fit a larger trans. But, if you're up to the challenge, please keep us posted as to your progress and post plenty of pictures, we love pictures...

1.1L vs 1.9L

Welcome to the Opel Community!

I have a 1967 1.1L Kadett Rallye ... and almost ALL the mechanical parts are different from the 1.9L version.

The front suspension has a lighter spring and smaller pistons in the brake calipers. The gearbox and diff are much smaller and lighter and must be replaced if changing to a 1.9L motor. Also the floor pan has a much smaller transmission tunnel ... so a 1.9L g/box will not fit.

A major job to change from 1.1L to 1.9L!

They did rally the 1.1L motor back in the late 1960's and early 1970's and because everything is so much lighter there is not a huge difference in performance ... try the 1.1L set-up first - you may find it LOTS of fun!

Besides which 1.1L Kadett Bs' are getting quite rare - and good ones need to be taken good are of ... before they are all gone.

Hi and welcome,

Indeed, quite a project to install the "big block", but mainly it is bolt-on if you manage to find a 1.5 - 1.9 Kadett to donate the needed parts e.g.

- engine
- radiator
- front axle
- rear axle
- cardan axle
- gearbox

Besides, you need to either rework by yourself or cut & weld from the donating car the front section around the radiator and transmission tunnel.

I would also recommend to make it a 1.1. Rallye look-a-like by upgrading the engine to 1.1. SR or buying a sidedraft Weber plus manifold. You can get some 80 horsepowers from wheels which ensures nice driving with such a light-weight car.

Thanks to all, specially to Alfred for your help with the traslation........

In my original project, I was thinking in a 1900 engine from a Rekord D, but I found and already I bough one 2.0 liters with his gearbox from a Rekord E (Very easy to find here in Uruguay). In my project one big webber 40/40 It will be installed.

I will have to cut the front section and put a bigger radiator. Dou you think that the Rekord is OK?

I need to put an other leaf transverse springs, for reinforce the front suspension.

I will need to modify the transmission tunnel, the cardan and found a good rear axle. In my opinion is better for a rally car is the Rekord D differential, because his Final drive ratio is 3.89. The E 2,0 is more long transmission 3,67.

My target is to win our German brothers BMW 2002, please helpme.
