Hi I'm Mike

Hey everyone I am getting the itch to own another Opel GT. I don't have one now but I have owned 3 in the past. A '71 in high school and college, a '72 California GT, and a '73 German GT/J. I had the '72 and the '73 when I was stationed in Germany. Sure would like to have all those back. Here are some pictures of them the dark blue would be the '71 model and the two yellow ones are the '72 and '73. I'm sure you can pick out the German one from the California car. I'm going to be looking for another one real soon.

Hey Mike,
Welcome. You've certainly come to the right place for unsolicited encouragement regarding the scratching of that itch. (I say go for it) Nice cars, by the way. Did the GT/J ever make it back to the states? Pretty rare bird over here.
Cheers,
Ron in Indy

I'm looking for something inbetween. It all depends what I can find for the price. Doesn't it always? I have had experience rebuilding the Blue '71 so I can guess what I'm up against. As for rrossjr, no the GT/J didn't come back over with me. Neither did the California GT or my '78 BMW M5. Ah, life's little regrets.

Welcome to the site! I was wondering if the GT-J came equipped with a radio? It looks like the J's pass. side rear view mirror mounted on the front fender took place of the American versions antenna? Or is that the antenna mounted on the roof in the back? I've never seen one in person so I was just curious?
Thanks,
Joe

That is an antenna on the roof and the car did come with a radio. Compared to the other GTs I've owned, the blind spot disappears with the passenger side mirror mounted that far forward.

Beautiful cars! It must have been hard for you to part with them, and I can see why you never really got over them... I especially like the styling on your '71, the wheels, spoilers and louvers really add to the look. I think you had the same spoilers on that car as I have on my '69. One other thing, is that a CB radio antennae on the back deck of the '71? That looks totally boss!

Yea, there is a CB antenna on the '71. I owned it back in the late '70s and early '80s and used to talk to the truckers for traffic information ; )

I can't remember and actually considered asking the forum. I'd like to get them for my next GT. Maybe there is something similar out there today.

They're American Racing "Spector" mags, shown here in the middle of the right column. I have a set of these on my wife's Sportwagon.
