Yogurt is on a distinguished road
Greetings from Kadett C land!

Hello! I'm a budding Opel nut and consider myself insanely lucky to be taking care of a '76 Kadett C Coupe. I've been lurking in the forums for a little bit and on some other forums that require that I strain to remember my German from high school & college. I'm excited to talk to some English-speaking Opel fans and perhaps even run into someone else who is taking it upon themselves to keep a Kadett C running in North America.

My Kadett is absolutely bone-stock with a few options, including the rear sway bar. 1.2L 4-speed manual. If it ever goes up I'd like to keep it Opel-powered, probably with a 1.9L. Someday I hope to own a Manta A or at least get my brother to buy one.

Hi Yogurt,
I guess we are new BFF's...
First of all, welcome to the nuthouse, and to OpelGT.com. Even although the Kadett C hasn't been sold in the States, you will get any help you ever need right here.
Second, I know your Kadett. The last time I saw and test drove it, it belonged to an 80-year old gentleman from Hamburg, and it was located somewhere near Emmitsburg, MD. It was absolutely great, I figured it needed front brake discs but besides that is 100% roadworthy. The guy was asking for an absurdly high amount of money for his car that I passed it on. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay? If you don't want to go public, at least let me know by PM...
Third, look at my "newest" Opel right here.
If you need any help, just post it in the right forum.

Greetings from Georgia,
Dieter

Awesome '79! I am so glad I'm not alone.

I saw my Opel on Craigslist and instantly fell in love with it. My favorite color too. I honestly think it was a steal at $3500 for the condition it is in. I doubt you'd find one in Germany this nice! It came with a boatload of documentation and Opel paraphernalia too. The original owner was a fantastic old man and his son who handled the deal couldn't have been nicer.

I am surprised the little 1196cc can accelerate up hills.

Pleasure to meet you!

Brian

So you obviously bought it from the guy(s) I met. I didn't have as much possible feelings about the son at the time, he just wanted to sell the car for as much money as possible, while his dad wasn't sure whether he wanted to sell it at all. The son offered it to me for 4,500 $ (if I remember right), and I offered him 2,000 $. When I would have been with the older guy by myself and talking to him in German, I probably would have gotten it for 2,500. The son actually pulled him away from me, ranting with him what the heck he is doing here. I told him that the market for a Kadett C is very very small in the USA, and wished him luck looking for a buyer.
How did you come into Opels? Any previous one's? I'm happy that the lil' Coupe is in good hands! See you in May in Carlisle?

Dieter

Hey welcome Yogurt, glad to see that our Baltimore (Charm City)/Washington DC Metro area OPEL numbers are finally growing. Hope we can all stay in touch and maybe have a get-together before Carlisle in May.

I am a fan of old cars, European cars (Ford Capris, Opels, etc. not Ferraris), and I am infatuated with 1970s design. The only Opels that I've seen in person are GT's but I know Kadetts & Mantas from rally racing. (I LOVE old rally cars.)

Frankly, my Ford Focus of five years just wasn't me and I've replaced it with the car of my dreams. Carlisle sounds fun, I haven't been in a car show since I sat behind my dad's '67 Mustang as a wee kid.

Thanks for the kind greetings!

Welcome Yogurt, and glad to have a "C" owner in our midst. Beautiful car!!!

Watch out for our Tri-state Opel Owners (T.O.O.) posts and be sure to come up and join our gang in NJ and south PA meets. It's not much more than an hour's drive for you and you don't need to bring an Opel (though we'd be glad to see your ride).

JerseyDave is having a meet in south NJ on Jan 24 and you are more than welcome. Have a look at the thread:

http://www.opelgt.com/forums/tri-sta...-together.html

Hope you can join us! Say hello in any case.

Jim
