1968 Opel Kadett LS 1.1L

I bought this 1968 Opel Kadett LS Super 1.1L in Portugal last year.
In Portugal it was called the "LS Super", was this the same they called in the US ?? We never had Opel here in Canada.
I bought it from the origional owner (my cousin) and it had only 102,000Km he ordered this Opel directly from Germany in 1968.
I Drove it for 4000 km in 4 weeks, with no problems.
I have it stored in a underground park and will use it when I go there on holidays. I am in Canada.

I am including some pictures, one of the pictures has my cousins and I the day I left with the car after I bought it.
It was a sad day for them to see their baby of 40 years go.
I always loved the car and told them that if they ever wanted to sell it to give me a call. They finally called me in 2007.
My dad had a 1967 Kadett 2 door, but I always loved my cousins "LS Super".
I would love to hear from other Opel owners specially ones located in Canada or Portugal.

Thanks Paul

On the contrary, most Opel models WERE imported into Canada. My third Opel (after two GT's) was a 1968 Opel Kadett LS station wagon with the 1.5 litre CIH. My fourth is a 1975 Opel 1900 (aka Ascona) SportWagon, although it was brought in from Washington State. We have several GT owners in BC, although I can't think of a Kadett owner off hand.

Hello

Paul

Very nice Kadett

I am beginning to like the Kadett more and more as I am almost
finished restoring a 1970 Wagon

Kadett sedans are getting fewer and fewer to find

Enjoy

All the best have a fine 2009

I believe that the only Opels sold in Canada were the 1971 and 1972 GTs, no other years or models were sold in Canada.

Maybe some of the Canadian longtime Opelers can answer this question ??

. . . interesting battery location in your first pic, most 1964-1972 A and B Kadetts, US and European, have batteries mounted as in mine, below . . .

. . . and has nothing to do with engine type used, i.e. same for 1.0/1.1 OHV and 1.5/1.9 CIH engines!

The battery was origionally in the same location as yours, but 30 years ago my cousins mechanic mounted it in the front because the battery acid was starting to damage the metal on the firewall. It was a good idea there is no rust on this car anywhere.

As an "over-fifty" Opel owner since 1975, I resemble that remark...

Um, the 1968 Kadett I referred to WAS sold (and bought) in Canada. I recall seeing many Kadetts in the late 60's, I knew of several Manta's, and of course untold GT's, so AFAIK, there isn't any question that those models were sold in Canada. The only model I do question being sold here was the "1900" (aka Ascona) as I don't recall seeing those, and aside from my SportWagon (bought in WA) and Rob Cassidy's MANY Asconi (plural of Ascona brought in from Europe and America) I haven't seen any others here.

European versions had it on the front mask, between the radiator and the passenger side fender.

OpelJim:

Do you have any pics? i saw a recent thread about an Opel place in the greater LA area that was in danger of being shut down. in one of the pics, i noticed a nice green wagon (69-70). Did you by chance rescue it?

Dieter, do you mean here . . .

. . . or with an actual plate, like the US version, riveted to the radiator mount? . . . mine has both, this one and the plate at the firewall next to the battery!

I mean the actual aluminum plate, riveted to the radiator mount (what I called front mask). Can't really show it on a pic, unless I would find one in the German Kadett B Forum.

Edit: see attached pic. The car shown is an early model (pre-summer 67), but my brand-new post-summer 67 front mask has the holes pre-drilled in the same location.

1 Paar AT-Bremssättel Kadett B 1,1+1,2 bei eBay.de: Oldtimer-Teile (endet 12.02.09 14:50:59 MEZ)

219 Euro, and they are NEW (not remanufactured). I know the seller personally, he's an hour's drive from where I grew up. He made lots of money on me a long time ago...

It's a small world for sure.
But basically, what you are saying is that you can deliver them even cheaper than TW?

Torsten bought a large stock from us so.........
Also Opel Museum in Tijnje so.........
Also O&M so.........

These dealers make shipments that have at least half truck load...so.........

Our enterprise in the Opel spare parts business still holds the name that is very well known to the local market.
One of our 4 warehouses (from 1/1/2006 4th warehouse) is in the spare parts GM business since 1949 (in continuous operation)
Our head office location is in Athens-Greece (Athens 2004 Olympic Games).

At the moment we have a large Opel stock quantity of genuine parts for Oldtimer Opels from the 1957 Olympia-Rekord-A-B-C-D-E Commo, Kadett /A-B-C-D-E, Ascona-Manta/A-B-C, GT, to the latest models Astra/F-G-H, Vectra/A-B-C, Corsa/A-B-C-D Speedster, Vivaro, Zafira, Tigra Meriva Agila in all repair parts range

Also we are able to cover from Insignia all of the sheet metal parts and fast moving items (mirrors-headlamps-taillights-bumpers etc etc) which are already in stock!!!
For the moment we are also able to cover in service parts the following engines:
A16XER PETROL ENGINE
A18XER PETROL ENGINE
A20NHT PETROL ENGINE
A28NET PETROL ENGINE

The diesel engines A20DTC,A20DTJ, A20DTH are not popular yet so stock will delay to be imported.

Some members of the forum (let's say David McC....and many others) will inform you for our ......quality of parts and services.

To our local forums we are considered as ''Opel Specilists''

You see we have to deal with hard to find parts so acccording to our stock....we try to do our best.

I am also the owner of a 1968 Opel Kadett 1:1 LS it looks that even the colour is the same as yours. My Opel is also in Portugal it had a previous owner, but we have had it for 27 years but it was used by us until 1997 on our vacations to Portugal it is still under 100,000 KM.We still keep it in running condition, but own another car for trips when we go to Portugal.
