My 1973 Opel GT Racing (and some info about myself)...
First, a little info about my self... I have always been an Opel fanatic, from before I got my license even... I've had a few, my first one was a 1991 Opel Kadett E Frisco, 2.0i-8v that I got from my father in 1999, a limited model made to show of the Kadett a model, as you know, it was re named the Astra afterward, this was a Sedan, with full black recaro interior a 5 speed close ratio gearbox, sun roof, and a few styling details by Irmsher... Before I eventually got it scrapped, because of damage to the frame rails, done by my brother a few years before I got the car, it had poly bushes, Yellow Koni ajustables, polyethylene bushes, 16v suspension with disk brakes in the rear, Headers, open air filter, chip, throttlebodies, a quiafe ATB diff, sports cam shaft... well.. It went like a bat out of hell... Had it until 2006.. Here is a vid of the car going 0-108 mph.. 1991 Opel Kadett Sedan 0-180 kmt, (108 mph) on a l- Video The next car was a 1989 Opel Kadett E 1.6i, nothing special about it really.. Sold it in 2007... Bought a 1992 Opel Vectra Expression, 2.0i-8v Sedan, also with a black recaro interior, as with the first Kadett... It got most of the mods the first Kadett had, as the parts fit straight over... It's now my every day car... Here's a pic from the race track at rudskogen, taken on the main event of OMC Norway in 2008: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y19...a/IMG_2981.jpg Ah.. back to what the thread is really about... My GT... Well, I saw an Ascona B with a rover V8, manual gearbox ++ and thought to my self, I can afford a new car, and that one would be awesome... Unfortunately, the ad was a bad joke by the owner, who, after I coughed up the money withdrew, and refused to sell.. Longing for some Old style Opel RWD fun, I started looking for alternatives, determined to spend the money... After a few thousand clicks, i found this Opel GT a guy at the Opel Motorsport Club forum was selling, knowing the man by reputation, and by talking to him in previous street meets, I went for it.. The car is as the title suggests, a 1973 Opel GT... Originally intended to become an Ice racer, it had a lot of cool features I really wanted in a car, and despite the steep price, I went for it... The engine that was in the car when I first bought it was a derivative of a 2 litre CIH with 180 bhp.... http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y19...T/20motori.jpg But since I had a lot of expensive and custom parts for my C20NE engines, (2.0i-8v OHC) that's what I'm going for... After refurbishing the car, reinforcing the chassis and building and fitting a roll cadge it more or less looked like this inside: ![]() ![]() ![]() After painting, it looked like this: ![]() ![]() Now it got some decals, I might remove some of them later... ![]() The original posts involved the entire building process, but when I'm limited to only 6 photos for reasons I am incapable of comprehending in a world of High Speed Internet... I'll only list some specs: Body & Chassis: - Glass fiber hood - Rally welded\reinforced chassis, 3cm of welding, and 3cm of pause, to stiffen joints in the body\chassis - Reinforcements in the body\chassis throughout the car - DTM rear spoiler from Risse Motorsport - Glass fiber front spoiler - Side skirts - Engelman mirrors ++ Suspension: - Polyethylene bushes - Gabriel Red Ryder shocks. - Lenk lowering kit - Quaife short steering - 25mm stabilizing bar in the front. - 19mm stabilizing bar in the rear. - CEA Racing Watt link bar. Engine: - Base engine is a C20NE, 1998 cc OHC with eight valves. - Electromotive Tech 3 ECU - Custom headers - The head has been ported and machined at CNC Heads - HOME with bronze valve guides and larger valves. - Lightened flywheel only, 5.6 kg - Dbilas Dynamics Throttlebodies - Oil Filter "mover" and Oil cooler with a fan... - Adjustable fuel pressure regulator - Magnafuel fuel pump Gear box: - 4 speed close ratio quiafe. - Gear ratio: 1. 2,26 2. 1,6 3. 1,22 4 1,0 Rear axle: - Diff lock from a Opel Manta GSI - 4.75 final diff drive ratio, gives 157 kph(97 mph) in 4th gear at 6500 rpm, 204 kph(127 mph) at 8500 rpm.. And 69 kph(42 mph) in first at 6500 rpm... Brakes: -Pink 240 bhp disk brake kit. Roll Cadge: Awesome, not in PVC.. Interior: - Sparco steering wheel - Roll Cadge - Not sure what chairs to use, but either something from Sparco, or from Race Tech... - AX22 & Dash 2 GPS/LCD dash/Race logger from : http://www.race-technology.com Plans with the engine are: - Enem Y26 Camshaft 324 degree duration - Mechanical followers - 2.2 or 2.3 liter crank, 2.2 If I can't get a 2.3.. - Custom pistons, machined to fit the combustion chamber in the head. - Forged conrods - 8500 rpm limit - Nitrous oxide.. - Bronze bearings... The goal is about 250 bhp without the use of nitrous.. Of course there are a number of other details not mentioned here... Right now, I'm waiting for the seller of this car to get parts for the custom headers he's building to match the camshaft so I can pick it up.. I promise more pictures when I've picked it up.. Here are some pics in my Photobucket gallery, no descriptions on the photos, a few pictures, are either not of this car, or they are of parts, no longer in use, such as all the engines, and the chairs from kirkley, they where only tested by the previous owner.. If it seems to have a bit to much ground clearance, it's got a simple explanation...
There's no engine & gearbox in it yet ![]() There is also a brand new lowering kit from Lenk, so I guess it will take some time for it to set to the correct height... |

The headers was made as they are due to lack of space... I can swap them out at a later time..

Also, we use proper spark plug wires and resistor plugs... ![]() But, space is an issue... This is, as you see a cross flow engine... The GT was never intended for a cross flow engine so there is really limited space on the exhaust side. Not sure what good putting a police officer under the bonnet would do... So please elaborate the word COP.

Hehe... Hard to come by those rear disks.. Fortunately I'm a member of a Norwegian Opel club Opel Motorsport Club where they seem to know where to get just about anything.
Just ordered parts from GT Source, as I'm renovating the flip lights. They turned out to be damaged beyond repair.. But by some miracle I actually managed to get two NEW lock\turn boxes for the flip lights... from the guy I bought the car from.. Lately I've: - Fitted MAT(air temp for the ECU) sensor - Removed 30 kg of rust ? In the area around the flip lights. - Fitted rear view camera & monitor, as the roll bar and rear spoiler makes it impossible to see out the back, not to mention the tiny engleman mirrors... :P - Fitted wheel speed sensor on the front left brake disk. Plans are: - Change seal on gearbox, where the axle enters, it's leaking oil. - Weld new inner wheel arches on both sides, and remove some other rusty spots in the front, weld new holders for the flip light boxes. - Move the brake master cylinder 2 cm down, because the bar for the flip lights touch the brake fluid reservoir. -Fit H-4 BI-Xenon(HID) kit. -Get it road legal.
