New Opel Owner

My wife aquired a 69GT while I was overseas and it is solid shape but not running. I know for sure I need a new battery and change out fluids before I get too in depth. It rolls for now until I can get time to work on it. Any suggestions for a newbie?

I'd start with draining all fluids, gas, oil, coolant, and replace with new, and new filters. New tune up items, or just plugs and a Pertronix unit, fresh battery, and progress from there....

Oil !!

Welcome to the Opel Community!

Prime the oil pump before attempting a start-up to ensure the bearings are lubed. Also put a tablespoon of ATF fluid into each cylinder to oil the rings and help them for the first few revs. Don't use too much - just a tiny bit is enough - and leave it to soak in for a day or so.

See here: http://www.opelgt.com/forums/6a-engi...rs-blocks.html
for some idea of the dry start-up pre-oiling procedure.

Thanks you guys are quick to reply. I have hopes for this car that before the end of the year it will be streetable. I don't plan on doing anything but making it like the car gods made it back in 69`. Well mabey update minor stuff but for most part I want it to be stock. I don't know anything about these cars so I'll probably be on the forum quite a bit. Will post pics later.
