Thumbs up New guy...

Hello,

I just found this site. Very happy to hear there is an active group here in Milwaukee.

For 10 years i have been heavy into Corvairs. (hopefully there aren't any corvair haters here) I'm currently on my 5th and looks like i'll be sticking with this one for a while. (1964 Spyder Vert)

Very recently i have been pointing out Opel GT's i have been seeing to my wife. She really likes them and wants to get one for herself. So, naturally, i am starting to make connections through local groups before we purchase one.

I hope to learn a lot from you guys. "Water-pumpers" are foreign to a Corvair guy! LOL

Hi and welcome. I've always liked Corvairs and thought they were the best
American cars sold back then. In spite of the moron Nader.
In fact, I recommended a lady I knew in 1963 to buy a new Corvair and she did and was very happy with it.

Opels and Corvairs both have/had Corsa model names too.

Btw. I've seen a couple of local "water Pumper" mid engine V8 SB
Chevy converions on Corvair Coupes. Pretty cool!

Always great to hear from someone that had good impressions of them, instead of know-it-alls that insist they had one with a 4 cyl... Oiy...

I have a relatively new friend that has a 69 Corvair coupe with a mid 500 cid Eldorado engine. Talk about scary! He just got it running and is working through a charging issue. Once that is done, brakes and tires are all that's needed. Can't wait!

Welcome to the group! The "Greater Milwaukee Opelers" are quite active and very helpful with working on each others cars. One of our group has a GT for sale that needs the typical body work but has a great engine,'69, that really makes it scream when you punch it. Looking forward to meeting you and your wife (mates always welcome!) at our next gathering.

Opel GT search

Welcome to the website, I'm sure you can find the answer to just about any question involving an Opel. ALL Opels regardless of model have their own rust problems, GT's thing is front nose panel under the battery and the battery tray itself, rocker panels( outer & inner)jack points and floors. That should get you started on what to look for. Sometimes you are far better off buying a finished car and enjoy driving it instead of trying to make chicken salad out of chicken crap, unless you are a talented body man. I had a new 64 Corvair Monza coupe with the 140 engine in it. I put two bags of quick crete in the trunk to keep the front end from getting too light at highway speed and drove it 125,000 miles with very little trouble.

Thank you guys for the warm welcome. I will try to get to a meeting or event this year sometime, but am also very active in the Milwaukee and Madison Corvair Clubs - not to mention web master for the madison web site.

That was probably a 65 or later. The 140hp engines (4 carbs) didn't come out until 65.

Wow, a 67-69 Camaro front vallance and one coil cut from the front springs would have given you better results and mileage. They are floaters for sure though if you don't make the mods to bring down those fronts. My 64 Spyder needs some coils taken out of the front, but i do have a 80's S10 vallance on mine that helps a lot.

It would really be nice for my wife to see, ride in, and maybe drive one to make sure it's really what she wants. You guys seem like a good group.

Thanks again,

Hi Curtis,
Welcome to the Opel community. I recognize you (and your car) from the Corvair Center Phorum. I am another Corv-Opel (Op-vair?) guy. The Spyder is coming along slowly, but still loads of fun to drive. Good luck with your search (and keep an eye on the ad board here)
