I'm a real member now!
I joined here a couple of months ago, Hoping that it might facilitate my aquisition of an Opel GT. I've been checking the ads, and EBAY, and Craigslist, and I finally found one! My first choice was yellow, then red, or maybe silver... But what I found was better! My hobby is restoring Vintage Kawasaki jet skis, so you can imaging my reaction to finding one that was KAWI GREEN! Here's the only pics I have for now. It was dark when I got home with it. I had a little excitement on the way home - total brake failure! I got it to the side and got a flatbed for the last 50 miles. Give me a week, and this will be my daily driver. Be prepared for lots of pictures and questions!

Yep, brakes are pretty high on my list with a new car.
![]() Looks nice! Congrats on your new ride. Looks like it's riding pretty high too, curious what the suspension setup is.... Jim

I'm pretty much clueless about the whole thing -
But I have this site to fill in all the gaps! I know it has a webber carb on it, and a header pipe. I'll be starting a thread to document the continuing restore. (I have done many "build threads" on my jet ski restores on PWCTODAY.COM) I like to document a project like this - it helps to organize things. It also serves as a crutch for my memory. (ask me what jets I am running on my ski - I have to check the build thread.) I am going for reliability, fuel economy, and taking advantage of any "new" technology for the car. After that, I will concentrate on making the exterior perfect. |

Good looking GT! Should pull a jet ski and trailer nicely. Did Kermit the Frog ever own her?

Please fill us in on the brake failure situation. Did you develop a leak or did the MC $hit the bed.

I drove the car for about 20 minutes, went to hit the brakes, and nothing was there!
The pedal hit the floor. Even the e-brake didn't help, but you can tell that needs adjustment. Inspection found the right front hubcap melted from the heat. Once the car cooled down, the pedal pressure came back. But I still put it on a flat bed for the rest of the trip. I will be inspecting all the brake components - I am also searching the threads to learn of my options for replacement. |

I'd probably rebuild both front calipers, replace all three rubber lines, put in new rear cylinders, and maybe consider a new or rebuilt M/C. Definitely fresh brake fluid! BTW, Opel GT Source has new 22 mm master cylinders available, and last month I sent them a bunch of original GT 'core' master cylinders...so they probably can provide a rebuilt M/C at a lower cost than new (they had previously run out of cores).
