My name is Chris and I am new to the Opel Community. I'm from just outside Lancaster, Pa. A few months ago, I just happened to be paging through an old copy of Sports & Exotic Car magazine. It showed a beautiful yellow Opel Manta on the front and I was hooked. Been saving up money ever since to hopefully purchase one next spring. Looking forward to learning from all the members in this community. Chris |

Welcome to the site, you are in a good area to aquire a GT or any other Opel you may want. Lots of information stored here, lots of long time Opel people and most of all they are willing to help another Opeler any way they can.

Hi Chris,
As Gary said, I am the guy who owns that particular Manta. I bought it on eBay from a dealer who bought it at a farm auction right near Lancaster. After cleaning it up under the hood, changing all the fluids and most of the rubber I have been happily driving it and would take it anywhere without hesitation. There are lots of other nice ones out there. It's surprising how often these cars turn up on Craig's List and e-Bay and locally. There are a lot of Opel owners in rural PA (was it the German/Dutch thing?) and cars come in all kinds of condition. Many are rebuildable but some are not. It's important to know the common weak points, in Mantas it's the battery tray (and often the same location on the passenger side) that rusts and then leaks through to the floorboards and into the frame rails that support the whole car. The lower rear quarters are also prone to rust. If you have a good body to start with, everything else is much easier to replace. The mechanicals are durable, rebuildable or available commercially or through the network of people on this site. There are lots of very smart and friendly people here you can take advantage of, and you can PM me or them or just ask a question and you'll have lots of help. Our T.O.O group is active too and we have get togethers a few times a year. The biggest event for us East Coast Opelers in the Carlisle Import/kit car show in May. Welcome to the madness, Jim
