New to your forum and my new 1959 opel caravan

Hello to all and I hope you all can help me with my newest project. I purchased a 1959 Opel Olympia Caravan. It runs and drives. Needs are as follows "complete" braking system, steering wheel center chrome horn ring, 1 factory hub cap, front hood letter "L" in OPEL, ROUND front signal lenses, service and parts manuals, etc... The car is in transit and I will update my needs when it arrives. I would like some direction to parts and services that will help me with my project. If any of you have parts and or cars, I would like to hear from you. Thank you Robert...

    Robert,
    Welcome to the OpelGT.Community!
Sorry I can't help you source any parts for this car, but I think there are a few '50's Opel guys on the site. I remember seeing a 1959 Caravan for sale on CL earlier in the year, out near Vegas. I think someone on this site may have purchased that vehicle, so perhaps he is still around?
Post some photos when you get her home...
    Cheers,

    Hello Robert
If you know what you will need, I also can look at my garage. I have the later model P2 Caravan, and I have some parts for P1 in NOS and some I produce too, like aftermarket parts.
    Greetings from Hungary,
    Peter

Matz in Germany and Opel Classic Parts in The Netherlands, as Gary mentioned, are good sources. I have attended the parts exchange which is held at the main factory in Germany twice and I have made some contacts there. I can pull out some cards and literature and give you the contact information, should you like. And finally, with a German car of this age, there is NO substitute for German Ebay. I have a Rekord P2 Coupe which I bought on German Ebay and I have bought many other items for Opels and Mercedes on German Ebay. Good luck with your project and keep us informed. Bill

    1959 Opel Rekord

Hello Robert, this is Robert also. How is your project going? I got mine in July of year before last. I'm having trouble finding parts myself. My biggest problem is trying to figure out this websight. I've been looking for a gas tank for way over a year. Mabe someone will see this and point me in the right direction. I know this Form is from last year but mabe my luck might change. Have a good evening. Robert

I think you're going to have a REALLY hard time finding a salvagable gas tank for a car that old, just as a general observation. I'm a big fan of just going out and having one made. Boat shops can help you find someone locally. I have an aluminum one in my car that's an exact copy of the oem and it will never rust or give me trouble ever. Cost me $500 and worth every penny.

For the short term you could install a fuel cell from Jeg's or Summit until you find a solution.

Do you have the old tank? Even if it has gaping holes, if you have the tank that this company can use as a template, they can rebuild your tank and coat it so that you will never need to worry with it again.

    1959 Opel gas tank

Hey Guys, thanks for the replies. I still have my tank, it's all rusty inside and on top. If I could find a tank with holes in the bottom and a good top I could have one made out of two. Mine has a good bottom. I've considered a feul cell, but I want it original. I'm going keep trying as long as I can before I do that. And thanks a lot for the help. Robert
