Dream Big Kid.
Future Opel owner.
Hi. I'm Rye from St Andrews, Manitoba. I feel strange posting without even owning a car, but I'm so bent an Opel GT. I've been stalking the forums for many months now so I figured it was time.
I came so close last week, there was an add for at 74 Opel gt on Kijiji. I responded right away and I was lost hope as a month went by... Then another month... I sent another email to him. Then another month, and the ad eventually expired... But on the 5th of December, I got an email from the poster stating he still had the Opel if I was still interested!!
Communication was slow over email but he didn't seem willing to give up his phone number, or call when I gave him mine. We eventually arranged a time, last thursday(dec 8th) actually, but I still had no idea where I was supposed to be picking up this freaking car!
I was so crushed, money in hand and only dreams of having my GT and still no word from the poster...
I'm not giving up! I will do my best to repay my knowledge when I start working on my car

Although I have heard of some cars being titled in strange ways, Opel GTs were not made after the 1973 model year.

Hi Rye,
Welcome to OpelGT.com.
Sounds like you have the Opelitis bug, for sure.
I read your post, and I was a little concerned about the
car you are looking at. Maybe because there are so many
scams out there on CL and Kijiji, my spider senses are
tingling.
My advice is to go slow, and check the deal out
thoroughly before any $$ changes hands. There are
lots of experts here and locally if you want to get an opinion
on the car.
Cheers,

Yeah this has all the signs of a scam. People who are genuinely interested in selling their car aren't usually that difficult to get hold of and would at least give you a location where you can see the car even if they're a bit peculiar. Going slow is very good advice, while the GT isn't the most common car around it's not like there's only 10 left and you need to make sure you get in one of them when they become available so there will be another one for sale before too long. It may not be just around the corner but as long as you have cash money and a bit of patience chances are you can make a good deal

Welcome to the Opel world, from a former Winterpeger! There are a few Opels in and around southern Manitoba, the most recent example being Richard Buhler (rbuhler here on OGT.com), who bought (IIRC) three GT's from a "collector" in Winnipeg. You might contact Richard to see if he plans on selling any of his own collection, or if the fellow he bought his from has any left (he had over a dozen Opels, mainly GT's but also a few Manta's and a Rekord as per http://www.opelgt.com/forums/general...ba-canada.html).
You can PM (Private Message) Richard directly as he is on the site fairly regularly.

Good advice, take it slow & find one that's not molested to much.I'm on vancouver Is . I emailed every dealership on the Island to see if they had any contacts & came up with a granny that was the original owner & garaged the whole time . Got lucky. Personally I'd spend more dollars for one in good shape than starting from a one in rough shape. All depends on your budget & what you want in the end. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice, the 74 thing was my mistake, I got confused with another car I was looking at on kijiji it's a 69. That guy contacted me again through email and when we set up a date, I found his address online. It's in better shape than I thought, and he's much more communicative now. Hoping to pick it up this weekend!
I got in contact with a few people actually, one guy was willing to sell me his restored GT, but I'm looking for more of a project.
thanks for all the support

Do you have any pics of it and may we ask what he's asking for the car?

Glad to hear your deal finally went through. Sometimes making a car transaction is not the easiest. Communication is also a difficult at times.
Good luck and success with your GT project.
