Hi everyone, I'm Chris and I'm the former owner of a 71 GT. I'm on here because my father is the current owner so that makes me the mechanic. It's been resting comfortably in the garage for a long time and it's now second in line for becaoming roadworthy again.

I am past the Age of knowing when I should know better
Do you take it to any local shows? I live in TH too. I may try to get Dad's out of the garage this spring and get it started. I drove it when I had it but he just lets it sit.
I am an old Terre Haute boy myself. I still have family there and make it over now and then. You both should think about making it over to Paul Tipton's meet in Colfax IN around the first or second week of June. You can look it up in the events section. Colfax is just north and west of Indy. It goes by "Opels in my Yard". I think last year he had around 9 Opels show up. I took the GT over last year and came back thru TH. I hope to make it over this year in the 75 Ascona. Paul goes by lezliewk on here.

I do take it to a couple/few, but no rhyme or reason to it. I just love enjoying what the car is meant for...driving it! If you need have any questions or may need something, let me know.
And the weekend he seems to do that always seems to be the weekend that we celebrate my sisters birthday, so I've never been able to pull that one off before. We'll just see what happens this year....getting married in a few weeks, so the schedule will be different this summer, but definitely not in a negative way. I'm a lucky guy thats about to get a lot luckier.
Congrats Jay, I'm already married and so far I've bought and sold the GT, bought a 636 Kawasaki and wrecked it, now I have a Chevy truck, a Jeep Wrangler and an ATV so she lets me have my toys. She's says if I'm in the garage I'm easier to keep an eye on.
Dad's is his second and my first. I'm an average mechanic and that German engineering is brilliant in it's simplicity. A lot easier than my truck. He sold his last one, a 70 GT, and the guy stripped it to turn it into a V8 drag car so dad got a lot of the drivetrain and some other parts back. Once the weather warms up, we'll have to get the cars together. Two Opels at one show should draw a crowd.
I don't have many pics of the car, but her's a few. One of the mostly stock interior and one of it hiding behind my truck. I'll try to find some from when I was still driving it.
Hi Chris,
Great to see another Hoosier Opeler on OpelGT.com..
Be sure to check out our MidWest club section here, if you haven't already found it.
We try to get together a few times a year, so hopefully we will see you and Eric at a future gathering.
Cheers,
Ron in Indy
