Unanswered: window crank assembly
For a 70 Kadett Rallye. I am restoring my car and I am at the point where I am putting my interior back together. Today I put the side panels back on the front doors. The armrest and door opening lever were very basic to re-install. The window crank is giving me some problems. I have the crank, small expandable O ring clip, black rubber washer and a white nylon circular fitting. How does this all fit togther? I have searched through all of my various OPEL tech manuals but cannot find any diagrams or photos to show how this thingie goes back together again. Before I gutted the car for restoration I took a multitude of notes and photos to assist me in the re-assembly. As usual..........the part that is giving me the problem is the one I took no photos of! |

Opel Illustration Catalog
Got one of these from EBay -they are invaluable as most of the parts assemblies have quality line drawings.
Here is Opel's pic of the window winder: #2 is the rubber washer; #10 the spring lock (as they call the retainer clip) #11 is the plastic washer; #12 the Spring (conical) as they call it. If you install the 'spring lock' in to the slots in the handle before fitting the handle it should snap into place as you push the handle on to the spline .. while holding all the other bits in place ..... never said it would be easy! Whoa! Think there is another "Opel-strikes-again" in that drawing - looks like the spring lock lives in the recess on the plastic washer - maybe #11 should be fitted with the spring lock holding it on to the handle before the handle is installed ..... this will let the handle rotate using the wide flange of the plastic washer bearing against the #2 Washer (rubber) so that the spring clip does not get tangled up in the upholstery ... good luck! HTH

Thanks a bunch guys!
I figured that the clip in the photo was on the wrong side of the white conical piece. The most interesting part is that when I removed both cranks in the first place they did not have any springs. The cranks are now put in place without the small springs and they both work perfectly. |
