Unanswered: front windshield trim

Its for my 70 Kadett Rallye again..........

I have the strip of black trim that fits into the channel on the front windshield rubber.

What is the best lubrucant to use so I will have the least amount of problems installing it? What problems might I encounter when I am doing it?

Thanks!

Thumbs up

The correct tool is a must....makes life so much easier.
When I do the Manta/Ascona's and I'm using new "off the roll" trim, I use a heat gun to soften it up and make it easier to form around the corners...
Take your time and you should have no problems.
rgds, Rob.

Is the Manta channel lock plastic trim the same as used on the GT's windshield?
Where on the Manta do the trim ends meet and is there supposed to be a small trim piece to cover where they butt together?

Gordy, The locking strips are the same and can be gotten from OGTS, # 2010. On my Manta I put the joint at the center, top of the window. There is a little chrome piece of aluminum that fits over the joint. Ask at OGTS as I think they have those, also. Use soapy water and the tool made for the installing of this strip as it makes it so much easier.

On a Manta, the correct place for the joint on the front windshield is center bottom, and yes, there is a little chrome piece about 3/4" long to cover the joint.
The rear is self explanetory, the two 90 degree corners at the top, and again there are trim pieces to cover the joins.
HTH, Rob.

Thanks guys.
The old strip that's in there now has the joint bottom center but no trim cover. I have the trim installation tool which works great but I like the idea of heating the trim with the heat gun a bit to make it flex through the corners better and the soapy water.
