...trying to figure out what I have

Hey everyone, im a newbie here, and a huge car nut, so I have some questions.

My dad picked up an Opel wagon recently as a new project (currently finishing up a 1978 Triumph Spitfire 1500) and just trying to figure out exactly what it is.

It is a 1971 2 door wagon. Automatic (even has a trunk badge for it), safari style rack, and the 1.9 motor. Is it a Kadett A? B? Ascona? Opel 1900?

The link says its a Kadett, but ive heard it called all 3 names...just confused I guess.

Any input or advice is appreciated.

The car in the picture is a Kadett B, so if yours looks identical, that is what you have.

B type Opel Kadett L[uxus] Car-A-Van [Car And Van = stationwagon], and as you said 1.9 automatic

OK...that helps. Uh...not to sound stupid, but whats the Difference between a Kadett A and B? Is the A a sedan and the B a hatch? (Just guessing

models Kadett A: sedan, coupe, station

Definately a B then. So the A is just the older style?

The Kadett A is the older model. After the A had done its job, the newer model B came, then C, then D, and so on, until the name was changed to Astra.

Alrighty, thats what I needed. Any known issues with these that I should know about? It was running when it was parked, but that was about 5 years ago. Fair to poor overall condition, so its going to be a long road for it.

I have seen rust on 35 year old Opels.

Think it`s more or less the same issues as any other cars that old. I`m sure you`ll get some good answers from people here knowing a lot more then I do about this.
