Unanswered: Kadett parts for Chevettes
I was just surfing the net for chevette parts and ran across some sites with opel kadett parts. Are there any transmission parts (kadett B parts ive heard) or any part from a kadett that is crossable onto a chevette. Peace |

Many Differences ...
The occassional Chevette part can be interchanged with Kadett 'B' parts - like a whole diff and I think the wheel bearings.
One question: "Are you talking about 'English' or 'American' Chevettes?" - they are different. I have used 1256cc English Chevette intake and exhaust valves (but there are two types and only one of them can be made to fit) plus 1159cc pistons in a Kadett 'B' 1.1Litre motor but most everything else is different - similar, but enough different so they do not fit - Imperial threads instead of Metric ones on such things as con rod bolts, for instance. Have not tried to completely interchange con rods though so Chevette con rod bearings and rod bolts could be used ....... The Opel 1.0/1.1/1.2 litre motor has its distributor in a different position than the 1159/1256cc English Chevette motor - so camshafts do not interchange. I was going to look at gearboxes but concluded that just another 4-speed was better replaced by a Toyota Corolla 5-speed - that 'project' is still pending ..... HTH

I'm curious if you are able to find used Chevettes where you are. A couple years ago I wanted a dead one to study the feasibility of swapping its front suspension into a GT. All the wrecking yards laughed at me, seems Chevettes are so unwanted that they instantly get smashed whole whenever they pop up. So one was given to me, when we went to haul it away we found such a perfectly pristine Grandma car that we couldn't bear to cut it up. It had one slight scratch on it, the interior was spotless. All it needed was a clutch. So my friend put a clutch in it and gave it to his mom. She drives it every day.

You'd be better off looking for Kadett C parts, which of course, weren't sold here.
The Kadett C, Opel-Isuzu I-Mark, Vauxhall Chevette, and US Chevette were all GM T-Cars and are very close platform wise. Here's a thread you might want to look at: Grassroots Motorsports and Classic Motorsports / Chevette You can put in a GM T5, as well as an S10 rear axle with available LSDs and Ring and Pinions. Kits are out there to put in a Buick V6 or the Camaro narrow angle V6. Springs are pretty much universal, as the axle cups/links are the same as on the Opel, all three link with Torque tube. Bilsteins available. If you look at the classifieds section, I have a set of flares similar to those shown on the Vauxhall on the above thread (actually meant for a Kadett C), but no front air dam. Regards, Wilson PS: Also check out The Chevette Photo Gallery |

Scavengers
.. Of course - the main interest we have in Chevettes and Isuzus is how much we can scavenge from them to keep our Opels going .....

yeah chevettes are hard to find, i just another one (2 door automatic with a blown head gasket) for $200.. this guy's girlfriend was scrapping it and it was being towed to the scrapyard.. just in time though i stopped him and bought it. Its become my project car for the summer time to restore, because the body is damn good for a chevette from all the ones ive owned and seen. Thinking of throwing in a rebuilt 2.8L v6 from an s10 when the body is all better and what not. In all of Ontario Canada though.. i probably own most of the chevettes left
.. gots a chevette farm here
