Awesome find and MUCH rarer, not only because of low mileage but the 1.1 A/T! Interior and back end are virtually identical to mine. Mine had 26,800 miles when I bought it 4 years ago and is all original too, but with 1.9 A/T of course. Everything about car is documented back to Day-1 . . . original owner was anal about it.
Those twin air-filters give me an idea for my twin DFO manifold . . . hmmmm. Also adding A/C with period-correct ARA pieces, except for compressor (my choice). Have period-correct Blaupunkt AM/FM mono radio (in Germany at the moment) for it too. Like yours, I also have original dealer license frame and original WA license plates. In a word . . . or so, yours is a super find . . . SUPER CAR!!

Going to bring it to the AutoFair this Fall? Very nice.... Did the fog lights come on that car originally? I thought the fog light were just on the Rallye. Very nice car!

Fog Lights
The fog lights were added at the dealer at time of purchase. The car also was ziebarted and was applied over the inside of the brackets. The lights are not wired up though as they were purchased for looks. I looked at the service manual and it states that the auto/1.1 combo was only available for the station wagon, but I saw where a 95 might had been available with that option. I will be doing some meticulous detailing on the car at some point. I need some original front floor mats (rubber) as I have the rear. I also think I am missing the fuse box slide cover. I love the color combo as it is identical to the Kadett LS in the catalog and the car drives really great. As far as Autofair???????I'm not sure that my schedule will work out this time as I am having to pay for all my new goodies (shop and car).

floor mats
I *think* I have a set of NOS front floor mats that would fit that, I'll have to look, but I know for sure I have a full NOS set of red/orange/brown coco floor mats for it I might part with. Nothing I have has a red interior anymore, so I'm not super attached to them.
Good find, great car.

Looking at your underhood pic, always one of my favorite shots, I noticed two things . . . the heater box is bare plastic - mine has exterior grey insulation covering it, and I believe your coil is a replacement, a late-model, molded type, not used in Opels until later, certainly not in '69 models . . . of interest only if you intend on "completely" stock.

Heater box
On the 1.9 Kadetts the heater box had that heat insulation with metal clips, on the 1.1 I do not believe it had the covering. My 69 Rallye parts car had that insulation and holes for clips in the plastic where as this one does not. My 1.9 parts car also had full plastic shrouding under the dash where as this one does not??? I don't know if it was deleted for the 1.1 or not.

My 73 GT came from Garber Buick, which tells me that car was originally sold in Saginaw Michigan. I know that they used protect-o-plates in 1970, I have the original from my Kadett wagon, bought from the same dealer. The plates would not have been used to cover the fuse box, they are made from aluminum, embossed backwards so they could zip them through credit card type machines for service work and such. I can put up pictures of one if there is interest in seeing one. Start a new thread if you do.

Owners manual
Otto is believed to be correct on the fuse box cover. The factory owners manual states that the fuse box is located behind the Owner vehicle protection folder on the right side kick panel. I tested a book I had and it does fit. The protecto plate I have seen has always been made from those old style label makers and then stuck on in the appropriate place. I'm sure they could have used Aluminum as well or later too. I guess the owners manual can still provide usefull information

I do want the front black rubber floor mats with the blitz emblem embossed. Those will match the rear ones I have already. I am not much of a fan on the coco mats, but they have there own place. Let me know by email if you find them keithlundholm(at)yahoo.com

It is cast as one piece and welded in place and is a bitch to fix should you ever have to!

Incredible car.
In 2005 my teammade bougth a 69 1500cc Kadett Station wagon with 5000km (3000miles). The car was abandoned in a underground parking lot in Roma/Italy since January 1970. Unfortunately ALL engine and trans sealings were brittle . After stripping both , he overhauled engine and trans with new gaskets and seals. Also he changed all hoses, tires, the complete brake stuff and so on..... ...........35 years of sitting left some marks. Last edited by tekenaar; 07-15-2007 at 05:44 PM. |
