Opel Classic Parts Obere

Is who I got a lot of parts that were impossible to get from anyone.. the trick though was getting parts numbers. When I told them I needed parts for the car and even sent pictures, they told me (as did everyone) that they were not available.

But when I sent them the Opel Parts numbers.. they came through with flying colors. I got all the door rubber for the 4 door.. !!

I have a OLD 64-66 Opel parts book I can ship you so you can do the same. Its Circ.. 1968 so the books will be complete and accurate . With old Opel parts books.. the "newer" the book.. they start not listing parts that are "discontinued" but "Discontinued parts" are still in the old Opel Parts vintage parts warehouse in germany.

You can paypal me cdgoin at ez2wire dot net $20 and I will ship you it too you. I also have a few books with Rekord P1 and P2 parts numbers if anyone out there is restoring one of them and needs help sourcing parts.

I have to say there is also Opels Unlimited ( Opels Unlimited - Your One Stop Opel Shop for ALL U.S. Imported Opels from 1960-1979 ) I KNOW he has a TON Of old Kadett A NOS parts. But getting in touch with him can be a challenge, and getting him to dig out the old parts as well. But he has done alot of Opel dealer parts buy outs and with the few Kadett A opel owners in the US he has a lot of Kadett A parts in stock.. its just a matter of him finding them.

He also came through with a lot of really rare parts for my Kadett B as well. Again, paitence is a virtue with Opels Unlimited.. and persistance is golden.

Charles instead of sending him the parts book, why not just scan the whole thing and make it a PDF for all who need it.

This is a recomendation to anyone with parts books. Just loan them to someone with Acrobat Pro and we can get them put on the site.

And yes I do have Acrobat Pro
PM me for my address

OK...

Let me state that I do have a great selection of parts books from about 1968 (Kadett A and Rekord) to 1978 (Mainly 1900) and some going into the 1980s..

As a side note. In later books they would put the GT in its own special section. But Mantas, 1900 and Kadett were mixed together. This of course makes it easy to sort out the GT parts numbers.

I found the closer you get to the model year the more accurate the parts numbers (They changed parts numbers as parts went in and out of stock.. and as the reproduced out of stock parts.. etc.. etc.)

Opel Parts and Service HAD an AWESOME collection of parts books AND Price books that had all the updates over the years to parts numbers by hand.. Which would be invaluablen now. Tom and Tobbie over the years gave me a good education on thier use, thier quirks and such.. I only wish I had them.

Unfortunately they are currently buried in boxes at Opels Unlimited, because Todd never fully appreciated the value of them, no matter how much I explain it too him.. Which even Tom and Tobbie tried to do when he came and cleaned them out in the late 90s.

Anyway, that said, I will gladly loan these to anyone that wants to scan and post them here.

Although I have to say its a LOT Of work.. and a LOT of pages. Even if you hand picked things like just the books from 1964 (for Rekord), 1968 (for Kadett A), 1972 (Kadett B and Early GT), 1975 (Early Manta and late GT) and 1978 (For 1975 Ascona/Manta). Thats five books and about 200 pages a book easily.

As for why those books, I usually add a few years to the model years to pull the parts books. Mainly because books close to the model year are incomplete as not all parts are cataloged yet and after about 3-4 years they are also incomplete as they dropped parts. So there is a sweet spot for pulling parts numbers for different models and years.

I know over the years PDF projects were contemplated for the different service manuals and as I can tell they have never been completed. So, while I wouldn't mind loaning them to someone with the time and equipment to convert, I wouldnt want to lose them either. I have collected them over the last 15 years to get as complete a selection as possible.

If someone is willing to commit the time and effort and promise either the project gets completed OR I get my parts books back, I will gladly loan them. I just dont have the time to do the work myself.

The other option is to do what I mentioned. Send them to the Opel owner in need and have them ship them back once they are done. I have found the books invaluable over the years.. I wouldnt have half the parts I do for the Blue max and the Kadett wouldnt be done if it werent for the books.

So let me know what you all want to do..

Charles

I have a '64 type A and have had a similar experience finding parts. Slowly but surely I've managed to get what I need but I haven't gotten to rubber yet. Like yours, all the rubber on mine is rotten.

I saw a '65 in Germany on ebay that just finished auction (Opel Kadett A Bj.65 + ca. 150 Ersatzteile - (eBay item 220150802907 end time Sep-23-07 09:05:18 PDT)) without meeting reserve.

It's good to know there are other type A's out there, though I still haven't seen another in the US.

Since Rubber seems to be the biggest need for you two. I will do what I can to scan those sections of the catalogs I Have and post.

A Kadett

I have found a site Opeldelar i Kungsgården 0290-373 11 which have all kind of opel parts various models and years in stock. But only problem is to getting any service in this dealer. They do not answer in e mail questions and service is only available in swedish language. But hey you can always try maybe some day they realize that business is gone on internet. This is place where we old car owners can buy and found parts that we need. Reiska
