Unanswered: Opel Kadett A (NewBie)

Hi Everyone

I am new to the forum so would just like to introduce my self and say I am now for the second time owner of a 1965 Opel Kadett A.

I will be restoring it this year and am looking for certain parts so was wondering if any one can help.

I Have enclosed some pics before I start the restoration.

Thanks

Nelson

Question Post picture of engine compartment . . .

This is '64/'65 1.0 litre Kadett 2-Dr. Sedan (31), right? Drum brakes all around?

. . . uh, where are you located . . . Italy?

Welcome!

What a wee sweetie! The Kadett A's are pretty few and far between these days so it is nice to see one in such good condition.

What bits do you need?

I have a Kadett 'B' but got a NOS 64-65 Kadett 'A' Model 31-34 Right Hand Lens, Front Parking Lamp Opel Part # 12 26 355 sent to me by mistake that is available.

WOW! Not much to do! Looks like you've got a great starting point. Rust must not be a problem where your from. Good luck, and definitely keep us updated on the progress.

Good idea adding pictures with your first post. You would have gotten bugged to get them if you hadn't!

Nice. Wouldn't do a thing to it 'cept a good scrubbing.
Had a silver one just like it when I was stationed in
the Netherlands way back in the last century. Slow?
You bet. But as a city car it couldn't be beat.

Top Gear Richard Hammond's 1963 Kadet

Looks like a very nice Opel. Reminds me of the one Richard Hammond drove in recent episode of Top Gear. Here is a link about the episode.

Wow! I wish mine was in that 'bad' of shape. Don't think me a pervert but after seeing that it may be a few minutes before I can stand up. I'm glad to see there are a few in good shape out there.

Keep an eye out on ebay, I've spent the last year gathering parts for my '64 and have had pretty good luck.

Welcome to the crazy world of Opel, there are more GT buffs than Kadetts and that is why Dieter is drooling so bad. I have a few Kadetts(3) and a few GT's(too many to say) a Manta and a Ascona like most other Opel addicts.
Let me know what you need for your Kadett and I will see what I can come up with, you may be surprised, OPEL WERKS likes a good challenge in finding the hard to find OPEL parts!!

Hi Guys

Thanks for the all the good comments on the Kadett. i do appologise for the delay in replying, have been busy getting the old girl ready for her MOT.

To answer a few of the questions I am in the Uk but the car was brought in from Italy .As far as restoration work that needs to be done there is rust on some body panels and a bit on the chassis.I have done the chassis as it had failed its first MOT for this fault.

Other problems are mainly all rubbers IE doors, boot are all perished.

The suspension also need new bushes ,shocks and resprayed to back to black.

I have a couple of oil leaks one on the diff and nasty one just under the crank pulley.

I have been able to get a lot of parts for her but cant seem to find a right rear tail light.

I was thinking of converting her to 12Volt system and was wondering if anyone knows if the Kadett B starter motor and wiper motor will fit the kadett A with out mods.

I have also posted a couple of photos of the engine bay and travelling home at 100Km Hour

Should bolt right up, and if you can find the optional alternator instead of generator you'll be way ahead in the long run.

Exclamation Alternator brackets too!

. . . you would also need to get the alternator brackets (mounting and belt adjustment) for it as they are different than the generator's. 12V changeover may require light bulb and perhaps electric instrument changes. Don't recall whether you have to change the wiper motor or not.

<<12V changeover may require light bulb and perhaps electric instrument changes. Don't recall whether you have to change the wiper motor or not.>>

The wiper motor still worked on mine which had a "simple" conversion (the previous owner had put a 12V battery and new headlight bulbs in and called it good). Other than the headlights and wiper motor nothing else did.

Arrow NOS 12" wheel trim rings . . .

Excellent work! Just curious, but those are 12" wheels, correct?

I bought an NOS set of 12" aluminium (sic) wheel trim rings from Tom, above, about a year ago, not realizing they were for a Kadett A. . . . not his fault, entirely mine, got caught up in the moment . . . they're even in the original 1964 Opel box!

I will offer those for your restoration for the cost of shipping them to you, if you want. Shouldn't be much cost, 13" square box and very light weight, aluminium! Of course, I'd need your address . . . PM me here!
