Welcome to the group! Your Kadett certainly was a good find. It looks like a nice candidate for restoration. What are your plans for it? Is it a 1.9 or a 1.5?

Welcome!

We love Kadetts too. Nice find - they are becoming a 'must-have-one' cult car.

Duane;

I have one you can restore. It even comes with a Romex alarm system, minus the siren.

Hmmmm . . .

Noticed that the two front wheels are proper "Rallye" wheels while the rears are off a '75 Manta/Ascona . . . at least if it was a US car!

It is interesting that the '68 US version has a different grill and front turnsignals although this picture is not a raylle.

Im in for the cult! How about three and one is a 68 Kadett Rallye.

Hawkeye's grill is off of a 66 Kadett (that is US years). I am not sure what year it would be there. But the tail lights are the same as the 68 Kadett(US).

Here's a picture of my 68 Rallye, and one of the 66 Kadett donor that the grill and front sheet metal work is in the process of going on my 68 Sedan.

Rallye Grille

Hawkeye's grille is the same as the one in my 1967 Kadett Rallye - similar to the '66 Kadett grille - but with matt blacked out sections above and below the polished centre bar that has "O P E L" stamped along it.
Scored a NOS one from New York - on EBay - plus the headlight surrounds; back when Kadetts were not popular. Also sent me a NOS standard Kadett one without the black-out ... bought the standard one first - then the Rallye one showed up (ain't that always the way)!

US Kadett vs. European Kadett

The US Kadett received a modified Olympia grill, with added turn signals, as seen with the Texas gold rallye Kadett, (posted above).

In Europe there was an Olympia model (upscale) that used a grill similar to the US one. (attached pic. below)

Then there was the European Kadett, seen as the green one below.

Lightbulb Grille and headlight bezels - Euro vs. US

. . . I've always thought that there was something odd about the late US Kadett headlight bezels (below), especially that extended flat lip at their bases . . . kind of looks out of place to my eyes.

Looking at the Euro Olympia grill and headlight bezels pic that Dennis posted, I get it . . . much more elegant solution to put the turn signals at the base of the headlight rather than in the grill like the US late Kadetts, IMO. Then, looking at his pic of the Euro Kadett got me thinking that combining the Euro Kadett headlight bezels with the US grill with turn signals might be the most elegant solution appearance-wise from both models!

Hmmm . . . sure like the "clean" look of the Euro grilles though!

Otto to install the headlight Bezels the mount for the head light on your Kadett will not work, to use the Euro Bezel or the one off of the 66 and 67 you have to change the head lamp mount or at least modify it so the head light is recessed in about an half an inch. I like the looks of the grill and light Bezels being on the same line at the bottom but I was not that keen on the turn signals that is why I am looking for some type of turn signal to fit the rectangular leave-out behind the 68 and later Kadett Bezels which BTW has a blank off in place of the rectangle.

Just realized that the picture that Dennis posted of the Red up-scale Euro Kadett has the turn signal lights that I am looking for, I need to get an order in to Germany for those.
