I would go the easy route and remove one of the door locks.
I recently bought a 1970 Opel Kadett LS and it has no key and I cant figure out how to remove the ignition switch to have a key made. So does anyone know how to accomplish this task?

Searching the forums...also checked the FSM. No where does it say how to remove the ignition switch from a Kadett. I will be removing mine shortly and see what kind of project it becomes. Looks like a couple of bolts that are hidden behind the vinyl pad under the steering column.

I had this same situation. I just removed the entire steering column and took it to the locksmith. He had the correct blank and made me two new keys. You can remove the ignition switch and similar to the GT you have to drop the column from the dash and remove a bracket. then you can get to the magic little pin to push in to remove the ignition switch.
Otto asked this same question last year and there was a back and forth between him and I as I explained to him how it was done. I think it included some pictures.

Next question is....does anyone have a good used ignition switch for a kadett? I wonder if OGTS can rebuild a Kadett switch like they do for GTs. Or could the switch itself actually be the same as used in the GT? I have my front suspension completely dropped out so I may be able to remove the entire steering column without too much trouble now. My Kadett has a hidden push button start switch which starts the car once the ignition is switched to the ON position. Now would be a good time to address that.
Gordy,
I think I have a spare switch. Will look tomorrow.

Thanks Kev, let me know.
That's what I was wondering, thanks. I will remove the steering column and I'm sure I can find a GT ignition switch (the actual electrical switch) and hopefully be back in business.
The switch itself on the 66/67 Kadett is real easy to remove...2 screws hold it in under the dash at the end of the lock/ignition assembly. My quest now will be to find a good used switch the same as the one I have attached a picture of.
Hold on I will check for you tomorrow

Usa Opel
Thanks Jim,
Sure is a lot easier to replace than a GT switch!
