Nice car, and fairly rare 68 with 1.5. I don't think for the area it is in it has too much rust either. It would be nice to see some interior pics. I have to stop looking at this now...I have too many projects going on, but would be fun as a beat around car

I didn't know that they came in the US w/ the 1.5 that year. I thought only the 1.1 or 1.9.

it looks like a nice car, though. i wonder if it is the real picture of the car presently. COuld be a a photo of it in good condition or another car altoghether.

I would pay $500 for it.

There's a link in the middle of the listing that takes you to more pictures of the car, including the interior.

Interesting car with potential but the title is likely to be a problem. I just tried to transfer the registration on a sportwagon I'm going to be working on but they (here in PA) wouldn't transfer the title unless they could see the VIN tag in person or get a pencil rubbing of it. (That's a new one for me.)

Since the SW vin is on the door panel (the under hood tag has only a partial number) and can't be made into a rubbing, I took some pictures of it with a daily newspaper to show it was current. I haven't gotten back to the auto tag place but I called them and they said it might well work for them. Will find out this week.

And yes, 1.5 Kadetts were sold in the states, I have no idea how many. Somebody else probably knows.

yep, they had 1.5 in the US. my dad was the Opel specialist at Qua Buick in Cleveland and he had worked on some. i believe i actually still have some head gaskets for that size engine. i have a few head gaskets that have an odd shape to the cylinders but no part#, they are loose.

AFAIK, the Kadett 1.5 only came in the 1968 model year

That sounds very much like 1.5 head gasket. Instead of a round shape, it is more like an oval. The ultrarare 2.2 6-cylinder CIH from 1967 (guess that was the only year it was produced) shares the same shape.

I used to possess one head gasket for 2.2. six, but w/o knowing its value, stupid me I threw it away...

Interesting car. Title could become a nightmare though. Even junkyards refuse to take cars with no proper title. I think you need the correct original title number to even get a duplicate made.

Is anyone bidding on this?

No, Tom, this is not my car, though I had one just like it. My rallye needs some work and has a vinyl top. I am considering putting a bid on this one though and transferring all of the needed parts from my present one. Kind of moving up without the rust elimination bodywork. I would hope it doesn't go to parts on ebay. If I bought it, I could do some shady things with the numbers for the title(I didn't say that).

I had to do that with my GT and a motorcycle to transfer the title back in 2002. The GT title was in my name, but from North Carolina and they still wanted a pencil rubbing or to see the vin plate on the car.

Isn't there a VIN plate on the dash like the GT's?

Sorry for the thread highjack.

It's not too far from us out here. I see a few parts on it that I could surely use.

parts needed

Gordy,
what parts do you need? I have quite a few Kadett parts as well as other rallye parts. We are not that far away from each other either.

On that car the front seats seemed pretty nice, the rallye guage set up, and the 1.5 head is always interesting.

I was thinking about trying to go see the car, it can't be more than 5-7 miles from me in any direction if it's in the city itself.

the only thing that gets me is the title problems.

I don't think that you will have a problem with the IL DMV. The car is an antique and all you should need if you don't get a title is a bill of sale with decent information on it, date of purchased, milage, make, model, color, and a vin# that is on the car. If the cost is less than $1500 you should not have to pay any taxes.

Go for it.

And pray the IL DMV doesn't have it listed as "stolen".

Shrug, they gave me problems getting a replacement title for my own damned car that was the same year. I owned it for 12 years and brought them the last registration i had from 1998 and i had to jump through hoops to get my own title back.

There's always taxes on a car, even if it's the base $24ish bucks minimum.

I'd sooner pass than try and get it fixed. Too many variables i've seen while waiting in that line. some might need the original owner on the title to sign it. Saw that as a problem with a dead guy's name on the title.

Hey, here in Illinois we have one advantage....we can get a minor thing like an improper title for a vehicle corrected (or forged) with no problem...just have our Govenor take care of it! In fact, while you are talking to him, you can give him any special vanity license plate numbers you may desire because he soon may be hand making them at Statesville!
I read today he pardoned for release about 40 prisoners at Statesville that he had sent up. He wants them OUT so that when he goes IN, they won't be there to screw with him!
Damn! If I hadn't spent all my money on these #@^&$@ Opels, I could have bid on that vacant Senate seat and be Senator of the Great Snake of Illinois right now!!
Only in Illinois can you go to E Bay and bid to win on a Senate seat!

I see the Kadett 1500 Rallye auction ended with a price of $910. Did anyone here buy this neat Opel?
