Unanswered: 1.1 L head gasket leak

I just rebuilt my 1.1L engine for my kadett.
After few hundred miles the cyl head gasket leaked
antifreeze at the right side. I replace the head gasket
again. I still have the same problem. cyl head and block
have been surface at the machine shop. I tighten the
head bolt 37 ft/lb in sequence. Any ideas?
i did install cyl gasket with the word OBEN up.
Pete

I had the same problem after my 1.1L rebuild with weeping out the right side after a few hundred miles. 37 ft/lbs is not much torque at all! Second time replacing the head gasket, I drove for a couple hundred miles and then retorqued all the bolts again with a little extra umph. Have driven 4,000 miles since and no leaks (crossed fingers).

most engines have around 70 lb/ft of torque on the head bolts(cold) ,this is a general number but 35 seams way low

I only added two pounds. I thought my torque wrench might have been off the first time. The 1.1's do have an awfully low torque spec for the head. That's why I'd recommend retorquing after a bit of driving.

Tiny Bolts ...

The 1.1L head bolts are VERY thin (10mm dianeter) and much more than the specified torque will haul them out of the block or stretch them. 35 to 37 lbs-ft is as much as they can stand.
Did you coat the gasket with a quality copper gasket sealer spray before fitting it and carefully clean out the head bolt threads before fitting them?
The head bolt threads should be lubed with engine oil.
The 1969 GT & Kadett FSM actually advises that the gasket should be coated both sides with Graphite Grease...... OBEN is a German word meaning "UP"
