Unanswered: Accelerator linkage adjustment (help)???
I know I read somewhere about adjusting the linkage from the accelerator pedal and the carb for full travel, problem is I've read so much and can't find it now!!! :o Anyway I have a shop service manual & owners workshop manual and have also tried a search hear and can't find nothing on the locamotion linkage to the carburetor!!!
I'm sure what I read somewhere is imbedded in a post with a different title, any help would be apreciated!!!Also I've got the two grommets that were missing from the linkage (aren't they all)!!! The grommets go into holes in "tangs" attached to the area around under the cowl. It should be obvious as the linkage will just be sticking through a metal hole with no "bearing" surface. The grommets act as sort of a bearing an will remove the slop. You'll have to unclip a link and disassemble somewhat to maybe get those in there. Be careful of those weird ball clips, and don't loose them. One of the links in the linkage is a threaded rod with a locknut on it (the cross behind the valve cover if I remember correctly). Loosen the locknut and by turning either lengthen or shorten the link as needed. Retighten the cocknut when it has the wanted travel adjustment. This is assuming the linkage is still stock and my memory isn't starting to fail me.

Thanks Burst!!! Some one had to know!!!
I knew some one had adjusted this linkage and installed new grommets, just couldn't find any posts on it even though it's not rocket science you'd think there would be something in the shop service manual I have! It only address the cable on the Manta, gee the Manta looks easy with a cable instead of the Monkey Motion linkage they seemed to love in the late 60' and early 70's!
And when you went to a wrecking yard to find replacement linkage they usually were all cut with a torch when removed by the wrecker

weird ball clips during firewall grommet install
I think there are 2 styles of ball clips, maybe 3. I had style "a" at my firewall,
Style B was sold to me by OGTS. At the firewall style "a" worked fine as holes run parallel to shaft. the ones I bought would not fit, i broke both that I bought as replacements. Style "b" would not work for me on my 70 gt. I ended up going to ACE hardware and buying .042" wire hairpins for now. the ball closest to the accelorator had no ball clip at all. to summarize here the small problem:Ball clips seem specific and ogts says the clips they sold me should be it. In my hands ,they do not fit.No big deal,as I can use "hair pins",anyone else experence this? OGTS said there is another ball clip in the headlight cable that is a different angle. |

Thanks indeed for the pictures, I was uaware totally of these clips at the ball ends. Makes total sense now on what has to be reoved to adjust the lil bugers!!! Question why is there a report bad post added at the bottom of your replies??? Who and why is someone adding this to our post? Are we not allowed to ask questions and state the service manual doesn't show this adjustment???

Great goudge on this from Gil @OGTS
Hey guys
Gil pointed out to me one of the first places to start if your linkage doesn't seem to be making full travel is to check the 3 screws that hold the acell pedal to the firewall! Sure enough mine were loose and the whole pedal was wobbling. Got the new bushings in the tags and now am making full travel allowing the secondary on thw Weber to fulling kick in, as well as the 2 cnd gear kickdown (I have an automatic) to down shift!!! If you got the poly bushing, from Gil, for the passenger side, an easy way to install it is to removed the bracket(2 screws), lube up the polybushing with lithium grease and use a socket and vice to insert it. It will just pop in. Don't forget to lube the inside of the grommets so you will have easy pedal movement. Lube the ball and sockets fittings with grease too. Just my 2 c's worth

BTW, GTs have two others worth mentioning: heater valve control cable clip and the two engine cradle spacers that are mounted between the cradle and frame rails by the innermost cradle mounting bolts.

I'm not sure Otto are you sure that maybe there might not be two types on a standard linkage? Maybe a straight type at the carb and another behind the motor? oops forgot the single 90 degree around the foospedal. I'll need do pull another linkage to see if it's different

i found if ur clip on the part of the linkage that connects to the carb ever breaks falls of or gets lost u can take a paper clip cut about a 1/2 in straight piece off and bend it in the middle then stick it in the hole were the clip would go it will work just as well as a clip and wont fall out either since u have the 1/4 in or so that keeps it there, this is what i am using currently and has lasted 4 days now of about 40 miles a day of driving.

Another solution is to use a small safety pin. Insert the pin end through the hole, and then lock in in place by closing the pin. It requires a bit of bending, but it is very secure. I used a safety pin for ten years on my linkage right at the carb

Any Ideas for removing a broken throttle linkage clip?
While on the subject of those lovely linkage clips, any ideas for geting a broken one out? It's the clip at the ball joint closest to the pedal. I ran a drill bit through the hole and it seems clear, but it aint coming apart.

after you slide the linkage through the pedal there is a small groove in that section of the linkage. a small snap clip fits into the groove and holds it in place. there is one spring on the passenger side. theres a tang off the body and the throttle linkage that runs longways with the car, the short one that snaps onto the back of the carb. hook all your linkages up and connect the spring between those 2 tangs.
